Job Highlights The MITRE Satellite Communication department has an excellent opportunity to be part of a dynamic technical team having substantial impact on the design and development of next generation DoD communication systems. While our work focuses on radios/terminals that communicate with satellites, we are also responsible for developing communication capabilities that span space, aerial, terrestrial, nuclear and cyber military domains.

The lead engineer has the opportunity to lead or contribute to a dynamic multi-disciplined technical team having impact on the design and development of next generation DoD communications systems, in particular, for satellite communication systems for nuclear command and control or for tactical communications in the contested environment.

Key Functions

The ideal candidate will:

  • Utilize system engineering best practices to develop requirements, conduct trade studies, analyze system performance, assess contractor designs, and advise DoD customers on technology and program decisions.

  • Provide thought leadership to address Enterprise level challenges, evaluate or define system architecture, and develop technical roadmaps.

  • Use sound engineering principles to execute risk reduction activities, perform modeling and simulation, identify technology insertion opportunities, define and execute prototyping activities, and test in live or lab environments.

Required Skills:

  • Posses a BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or similar fields with an interest in communications or other relevant technical discipline.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills/experience in several of the following: systems engineering, communications theory, digital signal processing, RF performance analysis, modulation and coding techniques, signal acquisition & tracking, link budget analysis, propagation & communication channel effects, electromagnetic modeling & simulation, communication threat analysis, or electronic warfare.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate across multiple organizations and engineering disciplines.

  • Ability to frame and articulate technical problems in a system engineering context and the ability to deliver effective briefings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with satellite communication systems, knowledge of nuclear command and control communications, or understanding of impact of nuclear effects to communication systems.

  • Possess a collateral SECRET clearance and the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.

Minimum Education/ Experience BS and 8 years related experience.

Travel Statement *This position will require overnight travel up to 10 % of the time as well as some local travel.
