Job description You will be a member of a dynamic Boston-based financial organization who will lead a team, including offshore DBAs, support and engage with application teams, and other infrastructure support teams. Your role will consist of setting strategic goals and architecting standards to enable our data driven initiatives. This is a technical leadership position, through which you will influence and provide indirect leadership to purposeful management of the database environment ensuring stability, scalability, and long term sustainability. You will work with a diverse team, consisting of strong members on a global scale. You will also be expected to utilize your familiarity with ITIL practices and audit/compliance practices.

Primary job duties and responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain database standard methodologies to several large scale critical Oracle-based applications

  • Patch, upgrade and migration plan for Oracle, MSSQL, and Sybase databases

  • Perform configurations of RAC, OEM and replication (Golden Gate, Sybase, innate PROD-DR)

  • Serve as point of contact for application issue management

  • Monitor database for capacity purposes (health and capacity) and systems back-ups

  • Partner with Database Engineering and collaborate on standards with customers and compliance in consideration

  • Ensure governance of platforms and respond to audit/compliance requests

  • Track and resolve issues and requests and within SLAs

  • Mentor less experienced DBA’s and perform peer review of DBA changes

  • Directly lead a team of people globally, with indirect oversight of additional project teams

  • You will conduct project prioritization of near and long term goals, status updates and progress reporting to partners and working groups

  • Occasionally work weekend and off-business hours

Competencies:

  • Expert level capabilities with Microsoft SQL and Oracle Database, Administration on large-scale enterprise applications- including J2EE applications in an ITIL environment

  • 7+ years hands-on experience in troubleshooting, problem source isolation and resolution of database related issues

  • 6+ years monitoring and capacity assessment, performance tuning and analysis, and planning

  • 6+ years backup and recovery architecture, implementation and maintenance

  • 6+ years in conducting business continuity activities and planning

  • 5+ years as Lead DBA

  • 5+ years database systems enterprise level architecture, Golden Gate replication architecture, and Exadata experience

  • 3+ years of direct people management experience or equivalent

  • Strong knowledge in HA and DR options for Oracle and MSSQL Server

  • Extensive experience in Oracle 11g RAC, 12c RAC on Solaris and Exadata

  • Expertise with ZFS Storage management

  • Deep understanding of OLTP, DSS and Data Warehouses

  • Strong working knowledge of UNIX/Windows server, scripting and automation

  • Strong SQL development skills

  • Experience with indexes, index management and statistics

  • Superb communication and documentation skills

  • Ability to learn quickly and exercise sound judgement

  • Knowledge of Sybase and Sybase replication server

  • Knowledge of VCS, network hardware, LAN, server sizing and Active Directory
