This position is for a Senior Level Electrical Engineer and Power System Analysis Specialist having technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, budgeting, or coordinating complex electrical and power system analysis assignments.
You will be responsible for supervision, guidance, and review of power system analysis tasks and projects conducted by the members of CDM Smith’s electrical practice.
You will serve as CDM Smith's power system analysis technical expert in highly technical electrical matters. In this capacity, you will assist CDM Smith’s electrical practice in matters related to design, troubleshooting, and problem solving.
You will be working in the capacity of a liaison with individuals and units within and outside of CDM Smith with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to electrical design and power system analysis.
You will be expected to work independently as the electrical lead or as project manager on multiple tasks and projects.
You will be providing support to business development activities of a highly technical electrical nature.
You will be operating in the capacity of a technical and professional leader and as a mentor for lower level employees.
10-13 years of experience since B.S.
Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering is required.
Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer, by successful completion of the NCEES Electrical Engineering Practice Examination is required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point) is required.
Will be required to supervise or coordinate the work of CADD Operators, design technicians and others assisting in specific assignments
Must be proficient with SKM Power*Tools and ETAP. Proficiency with other electrical system analysis software (Easypower, EDSA/Paladin, Cyme, or Milsoft) is preferred.
Proficient in all aspects of AC and DC power system analysis is required. Experience shall include short circuit analysis, protective device coordination, arc flash analysis, load flow analysis, motor starting and transient analysis, harmonic analysis, and ground grid analysis.
Candidate must have excellent writing and communication skills.
Must have working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
Proficient in the low and medium voltage electrical distribution design.
Proficient in developing protective relaying schemes for medium and low voltage distribution systems.
Proficient presentation skills for marketing and new business pursuits are required.
Proficient in Design Build type delivery and alternative construction methods is a plus.
Ability to manage several projects or tasks simultaneously is required.
Ability to train, direct, and mentor other engineers in the use of electrical system analysis software is required.
Ability to coordinate and assist the technical delivery manager and local team leader with work flow and assignments is required.
Project management experience is a plus.
Experience with Project Management Scheduling (MS Projects or Primavera) software is a plus.
Proficient knowledge of IEEE 1584, IEEE 3000 series standards, and other IEEE, NFPA, ANSI, IEC, and NEMA standards is required.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
5-10 years of experience in a similar technical expert role.
M.S. or Ph.D in Electrical Engineering a plus.
Published in IEEE Journals or Transactions, or other technical journals a plus.
Proficiency in power system planning a plus.
Applied expertise in distributed generation, alternative energy, and microgrid systems a plus.
Proficiency with designing, troubleshooting, and problem-solving for medium voltage distribution systems including substations, switchgear and standby generation systems.
Prefer experience with the following:
Performing electrical calculations for electrical systems using electrical systems analysis software.
Modifying and preparing equipment detail equipment specifications.
Developing the electrical plans and specifications for medium to large sized and complex projects with minimal supervision.
Performing site investigations to confirm and/or identify existing conditions for use in developing electrical design.
Coordinating with the client, utilities, fire marshal and code enforcement officers.
Reviewing shop drawings and assist with general construction services.
Directing lower level staff in developing short circuit, protective relay coordination and arc flash studies using power analysis software.
Developing of the project scope and budget and provide input for proposal development.
