The Systems Consultant is responsible for providing governance and direction on assigned Infrastructure related global initiatives. The accountabilities of this role include oversight for assigned infrastructure projects as intervention on Business as Usual obligations provided by IBM, CGI and CSC. The successful candidate will be expected to work very closely with the various business units, assisting with projects, issues and solutions. This position also has a clear mandate to innovate, improve efficiencies and effectiveness.
Provide technical governance and oversight over the IBM, CGI and CSC contracts to ensure optimum delivery of committed service levels are being provided to all business units in Linux, AIX, Red Hat space
Provide leadership and design solutions for infrastructure related projects and participate in global initiatives (Virtualization Roadmaps and Strategy) as required.
Review and validate infrastructure designs associated with all projects.
Act as a subject matter expert supporting infrastructure projects or business unit projects . This includes proactively identifying potential technical issues.
Produce solutions for business units that are in line with global and industry standards and strategies
Deal directly with all open Audit issues related to IT infrastructure for response and resolution
Participate in the Global Standard Working Groups, which provides oversight and direction for Manulife's global technologies and strategies.
Assess, analyze and synthesize current infrastructure data. Assess alternatives for short and long term impacts and recommend appropriate solutions.
Monitor resource usage trends and provide input to strategic planning based upon capacity forecasts
Develop or contribute to business cases and proposals. This may include presentation to senior management.
Provide governance oversight for troubleshooting complex problems. This involves working closely with business units, other infrastructure teams and external vendors.
Work closely with the IT security, audit, contracts and legal groups to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies and contractual obligations
Form collaborative relationships with peers, business units, regional technology groups, and external service partners
Participate in Change Review Board and approve all major changes
Requirements for this position are as follows:
Minimum five years of progressive UNIX, AIX and/or Solaris experience in an enterprise environment preferred. Redhat, Solaris and AIX strongly preferred.
Bachelor degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience
Provide technical governance and oversight over outsource providers to ensure optimum delivery of committed service levels is being provided to enterprise.
Experience with a global organization preferred
Experience working within a structured process methodology (i.e. ITIL)
Proven interpersonal skills: collaboration and communications skills (oral, written, presentation) with the ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
Function well within matrix management situations and under dynamic mandates
Strong team player, achievement oriented; works well to establish and maintain collaboration
Ability to think strategically, assess alternatives for short and long-term impacts and act decisively
Less than 10% Travel
Ability to work remotely in North America
