American Express Manager I-Project Management in Boston, Massachusetts

The M&A Integration and Separation team is part of Corporate Development within the American Express Finance organization.

The team manages integration and separation activity for American Express. The team is in charge of integrating all firms acquired by the company and separating parts of the business that are sold by the company. This includes designing the integration/separation strategy, conducting cost, timing and risk analysis, negotiating or providing input to contracts, as needed, managing large teams of functional subject matter experts to design and execute on plans, and reporting to senior leaders on the end to end program state. The team also acts as a relationship manager between the acquired company and existing parts of American Express. Along with leading the corporate integration/separation, the team’s responsibilities also include leading efforts to leverage the company’s assets to maximize value, championing opportunities to leverage the acquisitions’ assets to benefit the company’s existing businesses and in some cases partnering with senior leaders to craft the strategy. The team works closely with Business Development and M&A, also part of Corporate Development, along with teams across the company to effectively manage integrations/separations. The team is based in New York and works on integrations/separations globally.

_Responsibilities_ The Manager, Integration will guide functional and business teams through M&A integration/separation planning and execution efforts while also contributing to ongoing develop of American Express’ integration/separation infrastructure. The position reports to the Director, M&A Integration and Separation.

Responsibilities include: • Facilitate business teams to create logical and effective plans that capture maximum value from each transaction • Deliver on planning and execution goals (e.g. critical activities, communication plans) • Collaborate with all corporate functions (in Corporate Development as well as in the Business Units) and with business owners to successfully integrate acquisitions into American Express or separate businesses from American Express • Take active role in development of integration infrastructure and implement efficient integration practices .

_Qualifications_ * 3-5 years in project management or consulting * Experience managing large scale complex projects with diverse teams * Strong experience understanding and appreciation of integration/separation processes is highly desirable * Problem solving in ambiguous environments * Capable of focusing on big picture while also paying rigorous attention to detail * Excellent interpersonal/diplomatic skills to build relationships with diverse set of colleagues * Strong written communication skills (e.g., emails, slide writing), and oral communications skills (e.g., personal presence, executive presence, facilitate decision making) * Comfort in rapidly changing environments * Proven self-starter with a 'can do' attitude with willingness to dive into the details * Organizational change management familiarity a plus * Bachelors or Masters Degree in Business Administration, a business capability related field or equivalent work experience * Travel 0% to 25%
