Job summary

The Red Hat OpenShift team is looking for an experienced developer to join us as a Principal Software Engineer in Boston, MA. In this role, you will help us enhance our container management strategy. You’ll be a key member of our OpenShift team and focus on standardization of containers, which will include work around Red Hat Container Catalog (RHCC), Kubernetes, and the OpenShift by Red Hat environment. You’ll need to have passion for technology and development balanced with the responsibility of running a hosted service and supporting an offering. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will help your team change how development is done using the power of Red Hat’s technologies and services hosted in the cloud. You'll need to be able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes chaotic environment, with the goal of making our end users and customers more effective with every release.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Serve as a Red Hat Container Catalog (RHCC) and OpenShift by Red Hat expert, providing assistance ranging from helping decide the most effective frameworks to focus on, to integrating the right ecosystem of modules needed to complete the developer experience

  • Interact with multiple teams within Red Hat and the open source community

  • Use your excellent communication skills to communicate with other OpenShift by Red Hat engineers, product managers, and management across the globe

  • Serve as an engineering contributor to Red Hat Container Catalog (RHCC) and OpenShift by Red Hat to deliver the functionality based on the requirement decisions that you help understand and prioritize

  • Work in a fast-paced environment

  • Communicate with end users through IRC, forums, and email

Required skills

  • Master's degree in computer science or equivalent experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to directly interact with customers

  • Ability to work with, or quickly learn to work with, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Fedora, technologies like cgroups and SELinux, and containers and Kubernetes-related technologies

  • Familiarity with upstream communities, Ruby and Bash scripting, and Go

  • Familiarity with OpenShift by Red Hat is a plus
