Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Dover Motion is seeking a driven Systems Engineer who is passionate about designing motion systems! This individual will play a key role in the design and development of custom motion solutions for major customers in the US, Europe and Asia. The ideal candidates possess a solid background in designing mechanical, electrical and control system systems in order to generate sound technical concepts and innovative designs in a dynamic project development environment.

Responsibilities :

  • Work directly with customers, Dover Motion sales, CTO and engineering team members to gather and analyze system requirements, generate specifications, design architectures, and outline system interface proposals

  • Define, architect and lead the implementation of projects related to motion systems across engineering functions

  • Develop and document analytical models of system behavior and interactions and define a clear path towards effective utilization of modeling and simulation techniques

  • Select and size motion control components (bearings, structure, motors, drives, controls) for the system design

  • Rapidly assemble and test new concepts to mitigate technical risks on new development projects

  • Multi-task several ongoing projects within different phases of the Project Development Process.

Qualifications:

Critical Success Factors :

  • Driven and able to think of outside-the-box solutions

  • Possesses customer-focused mentality and strong technical leadership capabilities

  • Solid knowledge of systems engineering including physics, mathematics, structural mechanics, control theory, and precision metrology systems

  • Ability to communicate technical justification to both internal and external customers across various departments and levels of the organization

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in developing motion solution systems.

  • Systems level design experience (mechanical, electrical, hardware and software)

  • Experience in using CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, Altium)

  • Ability to perform engineering mathematical analysis (static and modal FEA, MathCAD, LabVIEW, MatLab)

  • Theoretical and practical understanding of stepper and servo control theory

  • Knowledge of Motion Controls, Drives, Encoders, Power Supplies

  • Ability to develop electro-mechanical prototype designs in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Experience designing custom motion solutions for commercial use

  • Experience with optical systems

  • Prior working experience in the Life Sciences & Diagnostics instrumentation space

  • Experience working directly with customers on system design

  • Ability to develop solutions that offer the highest level of performance at the lowest cost

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or Mechanical Engineering is required. Master’s or Ph.D. Degree is preferred

TRAVEL: 10 % of overnight travel required for the position
