Principle Signal Integrity Hardware Engineer
The x86 hardware development team is responsible for the architecture, design, and development of Oracle’s x86-based server products used in Oracle’s Public Cloud and Engineered Systems products.
As a senior member of the signal integrity hardware team you will have responsibility for all phases of the hardware development life-cycle, including evaluating initial concepts and architectures, performing simulations and correlation on high speed SerDes interfaces including PCIe, SAS/SATA, NVMe, and other I/O standards using applicable analysis tools, conducting analysis and optimization of power distribution networks, creating and implementing design rules to drive physical layout, and supporting bring-up and validation of system prototypes. Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting and determining corrective actions for board and system level issues, participating in board level schematic and layout design reviews, investigating new and evolving interface technologies as well as simulation tools and methodologies.
BSEE/ CS required, MS preferred
Knowledge of Intel CPU/chipset architectures
Experience with application of SI theories and simulation tools in the design of printed circuit board design (PCB) and/or packages
Background in high-frequency design techniques
Experience analyzing and optimizing passive channels in both time and frequency domain
Experience with high-speed simulation tools and field solvers (Agilent ADS, CST Microwave Studio, Ansys HFSS, Cadence Sigrity, SiSoft QCD, Simbeor)
Proficient with test equipment including Vector Network Analyzer (VNA), Time-Domain Reflectometer (TDR) and high bandwidth oscilloscopes.
Familiar with N-port network analysis (S-parameters, ABCD-parameters)
Simulation and characterization of Power Distribution Networks
Familiar with Cadence Allegro layout tools
Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem solving skills
Programming skills (Perl, MATLAB, C/C , Visual Basic, etc) for data analysis and test/simulation automation a plus
Ability to handle varied and complex duties and tasks needing exercise of independent judgment
Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Evaluates reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production; plans, designs and develops electronic parts, components, integrated circuitry, mechanical systems, equipment and packaging, optical systems and/or DSP systems.
Responsible for designing, developing, modifying and evaluating electronic, electro-mechanical or mechanical components, assemblies or integrated circuitry for hardware systems for the external market. Includes new design, as well as modification activities that results in significant product enhancement. Activities encompass design, analysis, testing and process development using engineering principles and methods. Technical disciplines may include electrical and logical design of printed circuit boards or integrated circuits; mechanical design of electronics enclosures or integrated circuit packaging; and embedded software/firmware design.
Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of engineering or related experience.
