Akamai's System Communications team is looking for a talented Product Architect to represent our products and services, support the underlying systems, and coordinate design efforts on a variety of projects in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment. Our technologies include network security, communications, configuration management, and monitoring systems. As part of the Governance and Architecture team, you will define, establish, and manage product integration with our services, with a specific eye towards maintaining safe and secure processes, practices, and compliance. You will be an integral part of our aggressive growth strategy for creating highly inventive technology solutions for our customers, driving more traffic on the Internet in a secure and efficient way. You will be responsible for architecting innovative solutions to manage and secure the infrastructure of one of the largest distributed systems in the world.
The successful candidate will work closely with software and operation managers, other architects, and software and performance engineers to design and integrate well-rounded new products and improve the existing distributed infrastructure.

As a Product Architect you will:
Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders: engineering, operations, information security, and quality assurance
Collaborate with peer organizations to increase the speed, reliability, and agility of software development and deployment.
Integrate internal and external product designs into a cohesive technical vision
Create prototypes and author detailed specifications
Take on cross organization project ownership/management
Successfully communicate conceptual ideas and design rationale
Advise and assist teams in maintaining compliance across products and services
About the Team:
The recently created Governance and Architecture team is part of System Communications (SysComm), which is comprised engineers who develop distributed systems that support and secure Akamai's global network. Akamai’s SysComm is a talented cross-functional group of engineers that builds and run the fault-tolerant and highly scalable infrastructure that supports Akamai's global network. This distributed infrastructure includes configuration management systems, networks security systems, and monitoring systems for all Akamai's machines running across the world.
Required Education and Experience:
Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or
6 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree or
3 years of relevant experience and a PhD or
Equivalent professional experience
6+ years of relevant industry experience in distributed systems
3+ years of experience working in large design efforts and coordinating with project teams
3+ years of experience with common Internet protocols (IP, TCP, SSL/TLS, HTTPS, DNS)
Master or PhD degree in Computer Science or related field with a focus on networking, distributed systems, system architecture, and/or security
Broad breadth of knowledge in the areas of operating systems, security, and Internet systems
Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and negotiation skills
Highly responsible, self-disciplined, motivational, creative and confident
Ability to communicate design rationale and build consensus
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
Experience with highly scalable distributed systems and databases
Experience with secure applications, network security architectures/libraries, and integrating with technologies such as GPG, SSL, SSH, PKI
Experience with network systems in an enterprise environment
