· Play a pivotal role in creating a core R&D organizational capability in partnership management to enable R&D’s strategy and externally focused operating model

· Implement and manage overall relationship management framework for key enterprise partnerships

· Coach and mentor R&D business partners leading partnerships to ensure consistent application of partnership best practices

· Asses and implement opportunities to continuously improve Takeda’s ability to effectively work externally and be a “Partner of Choice”

· Establish and/or optimize value of global strategic vendor partner(s) services

· Advocate for global strategic vendor partnership(s)


· Lead key elements of the R&D partnership capability implementation and act as a role model and coach for scientists involved in managing partnerships

· For complex, R&D enterprise wide partnerships

· Establish key partnership framework elements (strategic intent, governance etc.)

· Lead and facilitate joint governance between Takeda and the global strategic vendor partner(s)

· Ensure goals and objectives are set, measured, and reported

· Monitor overall performance metric (quality, cost and time)

· Monitor the overall health of the vendor relationship

· Monitor trends, proactively identify issues and risks

· Effectively manage open and/or escalated issues, corrective actions and mitigation plans to timely and effective resolution

· Facilitate the issues escalation process

· Effectively facilitate bi-directional communication to inform decisions/risks and disseminate governance decisions to stakeholders including strategic vendor partners

· Facilitate alignment among senior leaders as appropriate

· Support efforts to design and implement an externally facing operating model

· Lead/Support assigned R&D Transformation initiatives

· Promote transparency and consistency across strategic partners and between partners and Takeda

· Provide direct, constructive and timely feedback to the global strategic vendor partner(s) to effectively resolve issues and improve performance

· Effectively represent and advocate for Takeda teams in interactions with the global strategic vendor partners

· In partnership with TAUs, R&D functions, procurement and teams, identify and implement actions to improve efficiency of Takeda-vendor interface to reduce redundant activities and hand-offs while ensuring reliable delivery

· Identify opportunities to leverage additional vendor capabilities that may be of value to Takeda

· Advocate for the global strategic vendor partners in interactions within Takeda; provide vendor’s feedback regarding Takeda to relevant TAUs, functions and teams and facilitate effective remediation actions

· Support change management processes within Takeda related to the strategic vendor(s) relationship management

· Ensure compliance with all applicable internal policies and procedures, regulations; support inspection readiness of all regulated activities

· Contribute to creating a culture and values that attracts, retains, and develops the most effective people


  • BS/BA degree required; advanced technical degree preferred

  • Minimum 10 years of applicable drug development operational experience, global experience preferred

  • Minimum 5 years of line management or team leadership experience

· Proven experience in Alliance / Partnership excellence: deep understanding / experience of building, maintaining and closing partnerships including tools/methods

· Leadership: experience in building teams and leading both direct and matrix organizations with solid successful experience in influencing senior leaders and organizations including change mgmt. competence

· Business area knowledge/competence: has relevant knowledge and experience within R&D to enable meaningful dialogue/understanding with Takeda and partner stakeholders

· Ability to initiate, develop and implement new strategies and processes

· Ability to manage large and global change agendas

· Ability to assess issues/risks and effectively implement remediation measures

· In-depth understanding and knowledge of development operating processes

· Ability to comprehend and synthesize complex financial data, identify issues and trends and develop/implement solutions

· In depth knowledge about the economic stability, performance, offered services and quality level of R&D service providers

· Experience operating in a multi-disciplinary environment, including international exposure

· Experience working within a complex organization and demonstrated ability to work across functions and regions, at all levels without direct authority

· Knowledge of existing and emerging regulations and industry interpretations to ensure compliance while reducing complexity

· Understanding of and ability to analyze and summarize complex, technical information

· Ability to influence and work effectively with various business partnerships, regions, and cultures

· Excellent communicator with strong written and verbal presentation skills
