This key leadership role in the Platform and Systems Engineering group is responsible for managing and coordinating the resources and processes to deliver firmware solutions for PSE firmware (BIOS/UEFI, BMC, CDES), while helping to define the vision, definition and strategy for the development team by driving project initiatives that deliver on the Dell-EMC storage solution vision.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages and oversees the design and development of firmware subsystems for enterprise class storage products. Directs the work of engineers to ensure best practices around software development.
Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs while working collegially with cross functional teams to ensure project/department milestones/goals are met within approved budget constraints.
Ensure the team meets delivery deadlines, quality goals and collaborate with other teams to help define the product backlog.
Determine development priorities throughout the organization and establish processes across the entire development life cycle. monitor performance, and promote professional growth.
Dedicate time to people management activities including conflict resolution, employee support, team-building, and cross-team communication.
Ensures that teams have appropriate solution and technical specifications, direction, and resources to deliver solutions effectively by establishing realistic estimates for timelines
Participates in release and sprint planning and daily scrum meetings when necessary
Prepares and delivers detailed reports for program reviews as needed
Conducts and/or participates in architectural and problem resolution discussions with team members
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to create rapport, credibility and trust with subordinates and cross functional peers
One or more of the following skills a plus:
Basic knowledge of programming languages, operating systems, firmware, Board Management Controllers, device drivers, databases, embedded software, tools and utilities as applicable
Familiarity with x86 architectures
Familiarity or experiences with Agile software development methods and procedures
Practical experience in the development of complex real-time software systems
Basic knowledge of storage/networking protocols and connectivity Familiarity with enclosure management protocols (i.e., IPMI, Redfish) Familiarity with one or more storage protocols (e.g., SAS, SCSI, iSCSI, etc.)
Familiarity with Dell iDRAC or other BMCs
Education Required: Bachelors (Technical)Experience Required: 5-7 years
