The Data Management Director provides leadership, vision, strategy and oversight for all data management activities. The incumbent is a champion for enterprise data management, platform advancement, governance, quality, and vendor relationships across the enterprise. The Data Management Director is responsible for developing and applying the necessary controls to ensure data integrity, performance and privacy of bank data.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Responsible for defining the bank’s strategies for identifying and leveraging data – from a variety of internal and external sources – to drive customer intimacy and to enable human and machine-learned analytics.
Continuously develop and enhance the bank’s on-premise and cloud-based data platform solutions including: data warehouse, master data management, big data processing, enterprise search, business intelligence, data messaging, extract-transform-load, data masking and encryption to deliver on the defined strategy.
Working with all levels of bank staff and management, identify data sources and platform requirements and oversee the design, development and timely implementation of platforms and enhancements that meet business objectives.
Ensure that those platforms are available to and adopted by the enterprise as appropriate and can integrate with other systems as necessary.
Develop, implement and manage the necessary controls to ensure operational data quality and privacy, system performance, data security and compliance.
Ensure all data development is completed within bank standards and software development lifecycle standards and for building and presenting a set of business performance dashboards that provide timely information and insights to optimize data operations, performance and quality.
Lead multiple teams of data-focused managers and staff in domains ranging from big data engineering, data transformation, master data management, data design, extract-transform-load processing and business intelligence.
Ensure that the data teams successfully advance each in their own domain, while contributing to a coherent data management whole and ensure that each team has the necessary skills and depth to keep pace with ongoing changes in the technical environment including languages, tools and standards in use by the Data Management team.
Develop, implement and manage data governance policies, procedures, roles and responsibilities that ensure the quality and utility of information assets.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience and 10 years’ experience of proven leadership in the progressive management of data solution needs assessment, design, development and implementation.
Demonstrated experience managing the design, development and implementation of data solutions across a variety of data management platforms and architectures.
Demonstrated experience with master data management systems.
Demonstrated experience with relational data warehouse design and management.
Demonstrated experience with modern data architectures and technologies including: Hadoop, Elasticsearch.
Demonstrated experience with batch ETL data processing solutions such as Informatica or Talend.
Demonstrated experience with real-time data messaging solutions such as Kafka or Rabbit/MQ.
Demonstrated experience with software continuous deployment models, tools and practices.
Demonstrated ability to identify software risks and to develop testing plans to mitigate those risks.
Multiple years leading the assessment of enterprise data requirements and overseeing the development and evolution of supporting technologies.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Ability to clearly articulate process requirements and expected outcomes.
Strong ability to collaborate in the development of necessary processes, technologies and standards.
Self-directed and comfortable working in a face-paced environment where priorities can change with limited notice.
Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization to evangelize quality assurance practices, to understand desired outcomes, to inform of process expectations and to enforce necessary standards.
