Astellas Pharma Manager Information Systems Support Lead in Marlborough, Massachusetts

AIRM has a world-class R&D team, and is pursuing a diverse range of disease indications, ranging from macular degeneration (currently in clinical trials) and other ocular indications to vascular and autoimmune disease. The Manager Information Systems (IS) Support Lead will be responsible for various Information Technology (IT) Systems and tasks at our Astellas Institute for Regenerative Medicine (AIRM) facility in Marlborough, MA, including computers, networks, archiving, planning, asset management, troubleshooting, telephones, computerized systems and other electronics communication means. This role will be responsible for ensuring that various Information Technology systems within AIRM interest function properly and provide optimal effectiveness. This role will be responsible for the AIRM's overall IS initiatives and resources. This role will be the key IS liaison to the AIRM site and teams.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Maintain equipment inventory and documentation for all IT assets and equipment
    • Ensure proper documentation of all technical systems and technical repairs
    • Develop effective working relationships with both internal and external partners
    • Contribute towards the development of an organization that continuously learns, teaches each other and shares knowledge openly
    • Ensure the department is service-oriented and focused on the company's needs, as well as the needs of each department and of each individual
    • Contribute to the development of and enforce proper company security policies
    • Ensure the integrity of Quality Assurance policies as they relate to IT systems

Site Lead Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Manage IS projects and activities
    • Escalation point for IS issues and concerns
    • Communicate IS related news and initiatives
    • Facilitate the IS planning, including annual planning and budgeting
    • Manage annual IS spending and budget management
    • Work with management to define and ensure IS scope of service best fits AIRM needs
    • Ensure the highest quality of service possible is provided
    • Report flaws in the Scope of Service to Management immediately
    • Assist with Hiring, Management and Development of IT Staff
    • Manage local IS staff and contractors

Operations Responsibilities

    • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, facilitate the repair of IS Hardware and Software
    • Monitor operational issues and facilitate recommendations for improvements
    • Enforce Remote Access Policies and practices
    • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Remote access systems
    • Enforce Network Usage Policies and Practices
    • Utilize and monitor equipment warranties and RMAs to minimize unnecessary spending
    • Document, manage and forecast software licensing needs and allocations
    • Manage in-house inventory of replacement parts, spare equipment, tools and resources
    • Ensure departmental equipment and supply requisitions are performed in such a way that is compatible IT and other AIRM departments

Data Integrity and Disaster Recovery Responsibilities

    • Contribute to the design of Disaster Recovery policies that meet the needs of the company
    • Implement, test and enforce Disaster Recovery policies and practices
    • Mentor and oversee Laboratory Technicians or any AIRM Employee assigned responsibility for any data backup tasks
    • nterrupt any and all usage that threatens data integrity or restorability
    • Minimize any and all data loss or rollbacks with the goals of minor rollbacks and no data losses
    • Ensure proper confidentiality measures are met, including Company Policies, FDA, HIPAA and all other applicable rules and regulations

Scientific Equipment Responsibilities

    • Lead the integration of computerized systems and Scientific Equipment
    • Ensure users and supervisors of computer related Scientific Equipment have been given the adequate technical guidance and support
    • Write and maintain documentation for computerized Scientific Equipment with equipment vendors and users
    • Ensure proper service of computerized systems that interface with Scientific Equipment

Security Responsibilities

    • Contribute to, implement and enforce company Information Technology Security Policies and Practices
    • Perform regular audits of all secured systems
    • Proper patching of vulnerabilities in secured systems
    • Maintain appropriate Anti-Virus measures
    • Maintain appropriate Anti-Malware measures
    • Manage accounting and auditory components relating to secured systems
    • Take appropriate and immediate action with any and all security failures or incidents
    • Properly communicate all known security risks and breaches to company officers


    • BA/BS degree or equivalent IT experience
    • 5+ years' experience in managing teams of people, projects or both
    • 5+ years' expertise in Microsoft operating systems (workstation, server)
    • 2+ years' expertise in a network environment (e.g., Cisco, Aruba)
    • 2+ years' experience with validated systems
    • Must understand and adhere to validation requirements, including change control


    • MCSE or related credential(s)
    • Familiarity with Lenovo hardware
    • Familiarity with Cisco hardware
    • Asset management experience
    • Familiarity with ITIL v3.0 framework
    • Working knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry
