National Grid Engineer / Analyst - Protection and Telecom Engineering in Waltham, Massachusetts
The Protection Policy and Support department is looking for a Network, Software, or Electrical Engineer to provide substation remote communication and substation network maintenance and support. This position will be located in Waltham MA.
Support the daily maintenance associated with the National Grid Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) and Digital Fault Recorders (DFR).
Assist in the development and support of acceptance testing and maintenance requirements for network equipment and communication equipment associated with PMUs and DFRs.
Investigate and evaluate alternative communication methods for remote retrieval of phasor measurements.
Ensure proper cyber security is maintained through the remote retrieval of the phasor measurements.
Maintain and support the installation of Fault Recorders and the compliance of NERC PRC-002-2.
Design Standards, Procedures and Work Practices
Work as a member of an engineering team in the installation of new PMU locations.
Provide assistance in the development, upkeep and periodic review of Protection Engineering policies and standards related to network equipment, communication equipment, phasor measurement units, and disturbance monitoring equipment.
Review and support the implementation of system protection design standards and asset health strategies in consultation with the Control and Integration Engineering, Substation Engineering and Design, Transmission Planning, Distribution Planning, and the Relay Testing and Commissioning groups.
Represent the company on industry committees and participate in the formulation of industry-wide standards and practices.
Operations and Engineering Support
Coordinate with / and provide technical assistance to Field Technicians with issues related to PMUs and DFRs.
Manage the day to day relationship with relevant internal and external parties in order to understand their requirements, deliver appropriate customized solutions and advice; build cross-functional working in line with National Grid policies and processes.
_Knowledge & Experience Required_
A Bachelor of Science degree in Software, Network, or Electrical Engineering.
Knowledge of network hardware, configuring LANs, and software maintenance is preferred.
Demonstrate experience and ability to plan, direct, and execute technical work with a minimum amount of guidance and supervision.
Proficient in Microsoft Office software such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS Visio, MS Access and MS PowerPoint.
Knowledge of and experience with electric power facilities with particular emphasis on protection and control systems is preferred.
This position will support both NE and Upstate NY. Travel will be expected between the two areas as needed. Office location will be in Waltham, MA.
