Microsoft Corporation Performance Architect in Acton, Massachusetts

The Performance Architect will play a critical role in the development and delivery of our 3GPP mobile core solutions. The Performance Architect will be a proven engineering leader who will spearhead the efforts to characterize and improve system performance in Microsoft’s products. You will blend your positive attitude with the magnitude of Microsoft to empower our worldwide customers by delivering highly available carrier grade telco services.

Our mobile core solutions are deployed at major telco customers across the globe. We are looking for a Performance Architect who can influence the current product design and future evolutions to ensure the products continue to meet the high bars of Carrier Grade performance and scale in evolving networks and technology. You will play a major role in defining and improving the performance envelope of the product through simulation & modeling, software characterization and measurement supplemented and validated by external testing and customer checkpoints. You will interact with developers during the requirements and design phases to influence the design decisions. You will interact with testers to ensure that the appropriate outcomes are validated. You will interact with customers to explain the design(s) in written and oral presentations.

This position will require someone who can operate across all issues and at all levels. While it is a senior level position with significant influence across the organization, it requires someone who will understand issues, create action plans, develop monitoring methods and metrics, and seek out the next issue to conquer.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in development processes to review, document, explain and influence

  • Devise and Lead activities to improve/introduce product performance

  • Interact with internal and external customers to understand the requirements and influence the strategies to address issues

Qualifications

  • Performance architecture team leadership experience

  • Experience with performance engineering concepts with a proven demonstrable level of impact

  • Strong SW development background with expert level C++ experience

  • Experience with requirement definitions and follow through with the ability to lead development process transformation as required

  • Deep understanding of carrier grade telco product design to meet SLAs. A minimum of 10 years of telco product development experience

  • Experience with all aspects of the software development process – concept architecture, design, implementation, testing and support.

  • Experience with Mobile core technologies, including 3gpp, EPC Virtualization, M2M and LTE is strongly desired

  • Extremely strong written and verbal communication skills

  • MS in Computer Science or related field required. Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field is strongly desired
