AMHERST Job Description The Jones Library, Inc. in Amherst, MA seeks an innovative and enthusiastic Head of Technology. The successful candidate, a key member of the Library's leadership team, will provide leadership and technical expertise in the selection, development, and implementation of Library technology. Responsible for the integration and maintenance of all systems, equipment, and software. Provides technical support and instruction. Works collaboratively with Library Director and Department Heads in support of Library services, collections, and programs. Collaborates with Town of Amherst Information Technology Department using shared support ticketing system. AA/EEO Essential Responsibilities: 1. Purchases, deploys, manages, and monitors all Library technology. Analyzes and evaluates current and future technology needs. Provides vision and strategic planning for Library technology. 2. Works with the Town of Amherst Information Technology Department to manage shared systems and network infrastructure. Installs, configures, and supports hardware and software. Maintains stable systems with excellent uptime. Troubleshoots and diagnoses technology problems. May make repairs and perform preventive maintenance. Communicates and coordinates with vendors and partners for support. 3. Works closely with Library Department Heads to assess technology needs and determine appropriate solutions. Develops the Library's technology budget in consultation with the Library Director. 4. Implements measures to protect user privacy and security. Monitors, tests, and upgrades security tools regularly. 5. Investigates new and emerging technology to determine its potential usefulness within the Library. Pursues opportunities for professional development and maintains current knowledge in the field. 6. Creates and maintains user accounts. Manages licenses and maintenance agreements. Tracks inventory. Collects and reports usage statistics. Purchases relevant supplies. 7. Instructs staff in the use and maintenance of Library technology. Works with Library Department Heads to offer technology training to staff. May offer direct technology support to Library patrons. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in computer sciences or a related field, and three to five years of experience managing and troubleshooting complex networks and information systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of networking, network security, and communication systems desired. Knowledge of library principles, practices, and resources desired. Ability to accurately describe technical problems and troubleshooting steps. Ability to work well as a part of a team and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers, the general public, and partner agencies. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical people. Bilingual capabilities preferred. Background Check All candidates that are offered a position with the Town must successfully complete a background investigation, which includes a pre-employment physical, pre-placement drug test and a CORI search. A background check may be required after a conditional offer of employment is made.
