Amherst College invites applications for the Web and Digital Communications Specialist position. The Web & Digital Communications Specialist is a full-time, year round position, job group and level PT-2. The Specialist directly supports the College?s digital communications efforts, focusing on the overall appearance, production, and maintenance of the College?s digital presence. While the Web & Digital Communications Specialist?s primary responsibility is to the College?s website, there are additional responsibilities related to social media graphics, HTML email templates, and digital signs. Reporting to the Director of Web Design & Communication Services, the Specialist interacts with colleagues across campus regarding content, technical issues, and general digital communications strategies for outreach to current students, faculty and staff, prospective students, their parents, and the Amherst alumni community. Takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College?s efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment. Key Responsibilities Web Content Assist staff and faculty in managing department, center and program websites Improve and maintain the quality of web content across amherst.edu Produce web pages for large events, including Commencement and other annual events Maintain and develop online web-editing tutorials for campus web editors Develop web sites for specialized, cross-departmental initiatives, and other development as needed Daily operational responsibility for planning and developing web content/visuals and serves as a liaison between the College?s Communications team and individuals across campus who have responsibility for departmental web pages. Digital Communications Make recommendations for best practices for user experience, usability, SEO, navigation, information architecture, and accessibility Participate in website related presentations and CMS training sessions Assist with implementation of the College?s Visual Identity system Gather and interpret web analytics Develop and deploy content to digital signs Qualifications Required Bachelor?s degree; in lieu of degree, 5 years of digital communications experience, two years of experience using a CMS to manage content in a complex, multifaceted website Two years of experience using a CMS to manage content in a complex, multifaceted website Proven ability to organize complex information and apply design principles to make content easy to read and navigate Experience working on a digital/visual team, and/or collaborating with designers, photographers, videographers, and project managers Web production skills with proficiency in HTML, professional graphic software applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) and an understanding of digital media capabilities and limitations (color space, bandwidth, etc.) Solid skills in digital manipulation of images, including color-correcting, resizing, compressing, converting and rendering a variety of media into common digital formats Strong written and verbal communications, and interpersonal skills. Strong trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills using a variety of electronic tools and techniques Strong attention to detail; and demonstrated organizational, time-management and multi-tasking skills with ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment Occasional weekends and evenings Preferred Interest in one or more additional aspects of digital content production, such as Google Analytics, digital signage, usability, or accessibility Experience in a higher education or nonprofit communications environment Experience in brand management/oversight, digital analytics and/or user training Experience teaching web development technical skills and/or digital communications concepts to a non-technical audience
