Job Responsibilities:

As a member of MITRE's Software Engineering Technical Center, you will provide hands-on software engineering expertise in a collaborative environment to respond to a diverse set of sponsor needs. You will apply agile methodologies to prototype software solutions that respond to the needs of the end-user, empowers them to improve their business processes, and enables agile and adaptive changes to fielded capabilities to meet the ever-evolving needs.

The successful candidate will be a Principal Group Leader in L538 – Agile and Adaptive Software Engineering. L538 provides software engineering services that offer AGILITY to respond to the government's changing mission needs and ADAPTABILITY of solutions to evolve with changes in situation, condition, and circumstance. The successful candidate will work with the current L538 DM and help lead the evolution of this large department of diverse people, skills, and technologies. 

The successful candidate will collaborate with the L538 department management team to help enhance the technical integration across the work programs in the department, division, and corporate centers. The successful candidate will also work with L538 department management team in strengthening skills of staff to meet customers’ needs, obtaining resources, establishing sufficient lab capabilities, maintaining employee morale, and building strong work programs.

The successful candidate will be forward thinking, proactive and dedicated to continuous engagement between team members and MITRE partners to ensure the optimal alignment of skills with important and impactful work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or similar field, and 5 years of experience.

  • Candidate demonstrates an ability to apply advanced principles, theories, and concepts comparable to those obtained with a Master’s degree in a relevant field of study.

  • Candidate understands the missions, domains, and challenges of MITRE.

  • Additionally, candidate can define projects or programs greater than themselves.

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Required Qualifications (Required):

  • BS in Computer Science or computing related field with a minimum of 8 years of experience as a software engineer.

  • Demonstrated real leadership presence as trusted colleague and compelling communicator.

  • Strong and effective inter-personal and communication (verbal and written) skills.

  • Proven ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff.

Preferred Qualifications (Optional):

  • MS in Computer Science or computing related field with 8 or more years of experience as a software engineer including at least two years of leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to shape work for staff and diverse group of clients.

  • Demonstrated success in practicing Agile methods.

  • Demonstrated success in developing a variety of software systems while taking on increasing responsibility for analysis, design, implementation and deployment tasks.

  • Expert knowledge of languages (Java, C, C++, Python, Ruby), data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
