MITRE Labs consists of approximately 4,000 technical staff organized into 15 innovation centers. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Development Lead is responsible for driving program development outcomes across MITRE Labs that are consistent with MITRE Labs strategic directions for growth of impact in the field of AI. The position is responsible for supporting MITRE Labs principal investigators to drive business development efforts; lead the management of efficient proposal development and contract capture; and effectively partner both within MITRE and with external partners to expand MITRE’s work to new federal sponsors.

Responsibilities:

AI is a critical technology area for the United States and is a core priority for the White House and Congress. Over the past few years, MITRE has dramatically grown its talent base, capabilities, and differentiated expertise in AI to satisfy the needs of our federal sponsors, but sees even greater opportunity to combine our mission acumen with R&D depth to drive development and adoption of responsible AI. This position will support and manage effective business capture to enable the underlying mission of MITRE Labs: tackling national- and global-scale challenges in applied sciences and advanced technology, specifically in the domains of artificial intelligence including AI assurance, AI test & evaluation, and AI for strategic decision support. Reporting to the Director of Strategy and Growth, this position will collaborate closely with leadership from MITRE Labs’ AI and Autonomy Innovation Center and stakeholders from across the company.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Organize and execute long-lead business development, including sponsor and partner engagement.

  • Lead lateral coordination and capture of center-scale R&D proposal efforts, to include opportunity identification, maturation, and qualification, assembling a team of performers, and leading the proposal writing process. Submit high-quality and compliant proposals, and lead successful proposals through the contracting stage.

  • Develop materials and opportunities to communicate internally and externally to advance MITRE Labs’ mission. Provide input into marketing efforts to advance MITRE Labs’ brand and reputation and capability awareness across government, industry, and academia. Develop and maintain strong relationships with partners aligned with MITRE’s AI strategy.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of related experience; or Master’s degree with 8 years or related experience; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline;

  • Deep understanding of federal S&T landscape, thorough knowledge of federal agencies who fund research and development;

  • Demonstrated track record of success in shaping, pursuing, and winning national initiatives in science and technology, to include proposal writing, customer engagement, and coordinating proposal teams;

  • An understanding of academic research landscape, active network of connections and potential partners in academia, government, and industry;

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active security clearance;

  • Demonstrated track record of significant program development and business capture in the artificial intelligence field;

  • Experience in building and implementing new science and technology programs across federal, industry, and non-profit/academia stakeholders.
