MITRE’s Human Language Technology Department works across the full range of US Government agencies to provide language processing solutions to address complex mission needs for our Government sponsors. Our work provides opportunities to apply language processing solutions to real-world challenges and to research new methods to address mission needs. We are looking for highly-motivated, adaptive, and self-directed candidates to perform research, development, engineering, evaluation and integration in the field of natural language processing, to include computational linguistics, artificial intelligence and machine learning as applied to machine and computer-assisted translation, speech processing, information extraction, information retrieval, identity matching and associated areas of human language technology.
Day to Day Responsibilities
The position involves researching, developing, evaluating, integrating and assisting government customers with language technology tools. Specific responsibilities will include:
Provide thought leadership and problem solving for our government customers
Convey complex ideas to non-technical audiences through briefings and/or white papers
Analyze language processing needs and recommend solutions
Prototype language technology solutions based on analysis of workflow needs
Create, prepare or process language data sets for improving or evaluating language technology tools
Evaluate technology solutions in the context of mission data and workflow needs
Research new technologies and methods suitable for addressing mission needs
Requirements / Must Have for Consideration
Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a US government clearance.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, linguistics, or related disciplines and 5+ years documented success in one or more of the following areas:
Design and implementation of language technology evaluations
Knowledge of and experience in prototyping/developing human language technologies
Application of machine learning techniques (e.g., neural approaches) to language processing challenges
Integration or customization of third-party (commercially available or open source) language technology tools in one or more application areas of HLT
Strategic planning for the development, insertion and use of language technologies
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance. For this position, MITRE will consider only applicants with security clearances or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
Preference given to qualified candidates with active clearance
Breadth of knowledge/experience working with multiple applications or subfields of natural language processing
Experience working directly with customers with a range of technical backgrounds
Candidates holding current / active US Government security clearance(s) are highly preferred.
