iRobot Corporation Database Engineer in Bedford, Massachusetts

The Database Engineer will report to the Data Applications Manager within the product division of IT and will be responsible for enhancing and maturing iRobot’s product data applications. The Database Engineer will add delivery capacity to design, build and scale all of iRobot’s custom applications that enable robot processing functions.

These applications directly communicate with iRobot’s full suite of products, as well as, utilize robot data to enhance customer experience and the life of our products. The Database Engineer will work closely with the Platform Managers to understand IoT, Product, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Customer Care, and Repair business requirements.

  • Full-stack database engineering for each new robot data business need.

  • Design, develop, and enhance and advise necessary database modeling.

  • Support team’s whole lifecycle software development for the full suite of iRobot’s product data web-based applications.

  • Providing guidance to a contracted development team.

  • All other tasks delegated by the Manager.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.

  • 5+ years of working experience in design, development, and enhancement of data models.

  • Experience in performance database tuning and optimization, query optimization, index tuning, caching, buffer tuning and data archiving strategies.

  • Working experience in database modeling, knowledge in DDL and DML and write ad-hoc queries, stored procedure based on schema knowledge for various application requirements

  • Experience in using database workbench for MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle.

  • Knowledge in automation SQL and script unit test creation.

  • Ability to think analytically, plan for expansion of systems/tools, troubleshoot and solve database issues.

  • Knowledge in Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), such as Amazon Aurora.

  • Software Development Lifecycle – Agile (Jira, Confluence).

  • Strong written and verbal communications.

  • Work with Platform Managers, Product Owners, Engineers, and QA.
