The MITRE Corporation Director of Infrastructure in Bedford, Massachusetts

Reporting to the CIO , the Director of Infrastructure will provide strategic direction that will drive increased performance while developing, refining, and promoting the vision of the enterprise and executing on short-and long-term plans. Lead and manage a team of technical experts within the following domains: cloud, networking, lab services, endpoint provisioning, and classified environments.

The Director of Infrastructure ensures that MITRE’s infrastructure supports the needs of the enterprise as well as our sponsors while prioritizing security and compliance.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and communicate a clear vision and strategy for MITRE’s cloud infrastructure aligned with enterprise goals and objectives that maximize the success of business and IT enterprise initiatives.

  • Foster and maintain trusting relationships with stakeholders, developers, and engineers across the enterprise and display a balanced, cross-functional perspective, liaising with the business to improve efficiency, effectiveness and productivity. Develop a clear understanding of business needs, act as a trusted advisor, and ensure cost-effective delivery of IT services to meet those needs.

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for the full life cycle of IT systems, working in close partnership with peers, and identify where common approaches, solutions, and shared platforms provided by Infrastructure that could drive efficiency.

  • Provide strategic guidance on infrastructure architecture, deployment automation, and security best practices in collaboration with security and architecture teams.

  • Work with the IT senior leadership team on the service portfolio and governance required to prioritize resources, including budget. Work with key stakeholders to measure and prioritize technical debt remediation.

  • Develop and execute a strategy to improve awareness of the business value that the Infrastructure function provides and continuously seek to ensure alignment to customer needs.

  • Create a culture of continuous cost optimization. Create and align an Infrastructure value map by linking targeted business outcomes with the future-state business capabilities required to achieve them. Develop and control the annual budget to ensure that it's consistent with the overall strategic objectives of IT and the enterprise and is within plan.

  • Collaborate with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to ensure the team contributes, embraces, and applies security strategy.

  • Lead, motivate, and mentor a diverse team of professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability. Promote continuous learning within the team, particularly around cloud technologies and other emerging technologies.

  • Drive the development and adoption of enterprise technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics and a ct as a liaison between technical teams and senior leadership, providing regular updates, insights, and recommendations on cloud infrastructure initiatives.

  • Drive initiatives to improve system reliability, scalability, and performance without compromising security and integrity. Strengthen IT resilience by executing strategies that improve reliability, tolerability, and disaster recovery readiness.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 15 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems (advanced degree in related field preferred); or 12 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 10 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Leadership experience of 15+ years, with the ability to develop and communicate an Infrastructure vision that aligns with the IT and business strategy

  • Demonstrated experience building cloud management solutions, including software development, integration, and ongoing engineering aspects.

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in multiple technical disciplines core to the Enterprise IT organization: Cloud & platform engineering, network architecture & design, Classified systems development and/or endpoint protection

  • Prior experience with audit and the assessment review process ensuring compliance with CMMC level 2 certification.

  • Prior success consolidating operations capabilities in large, complex enterprise organizations to deliver improved efficiency, while balancing customer preferences for agility.

  • Demonstrated ability leading cloud adoption (at scale), including establishing governance mechanisms, and delivering migration projects.

  • Proficiency developing governance practices to track and measure the quality of services and maintain service improvement plans.

  • Proficiency in data engineering concepts, tools, and technologies. Deep knowledge of Agile methodologies, with experience implementing Agile practices and driving organizational change.

  • Ability to build consensus, make decisions based on many variables, and gain support for major initiatives.

  • Strong business and financial acumen, including industry, domain-specific knowledge of the enterprise and its business units

  • Effectively communicate the expectation levels and vision of the organization in a way to motivate and encourage staff to achieve high performance and generate growth.

  • Previously held a minimum of a secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.

  • Will require working at main campus 4 days a week.
