MITRE’s Systems Security Engineering Department has a new opportunity for a subject matter expert to join an innovative team of engineers focused on ensuring resilient and secure solutions for sponsor or customer needs and developing security capabilities for a safer world.

This is an opportunity for a technically sharp self-starter to lead efforts building security into large engineering projects and acquisition efforts. The candidate for this position will work a wide variety of challenging systems resiliency, security, and cybersecurity activities in direct support of programs and will have opportunities to advance the science of resilient systems engineering for security and other loss concerned needs.

To succeed in this position, you must be a subject matter expert in a broad range of security topics ranging from strategy and planning, governance and management, to protection, detection, mitigation, and cyber operations. You will need excellent verbal and written communication skills to present your findings, recommendations and ideas to the Senior Government Sponsors.

Day to day responsibilities:

  • Analyze missions and systems for potential loss conditions and unacceptable loss consequences and propose mitigation approaches

  • Provide recommendations on ensuring systems are specified, designed, developed, implemented, integrated, and sustained to meet security, resiliency, and safety needs, goals and objectives

  • Research and develop unique, cutting-edge technical capabilities and processes for understanding, assessing, and analyzing system and technology resilience and security

  • Lead systems security analysis and assessments, including identifying risk criticalities and handling options, to inform decision making

  • Lead the development of systems security and cybersecurity strategy development, system testing and evaluation, and verification and validation efforts

  • Analyze system requirements, software, hardware, supply chain, and integration approaches using analysis tools to identify vulnerabilities and system architecture, design, and implementation flaws

  • Develop systems security engineering attributes within complex model-based system engineering products in direct support of programs

Required Skills

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar field

  • 6 + years applicable experience.

  • Must have DoD Secret clearance for consideration

  • Hands on proficiency using emerging cyber technologies

  • Familiarity leading capability development and integration effort

  • Experience working in and briefing senior leaders at DoD major commands

  • Employing excellent writing and communication skills to develop / deliver technical explanations and presentations.

  • Success working in a highly collaborative environment with peers and senior government officials.

Desired Skills

  • Preference given to qualified candidates with advanced US Government clearances

  • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-160 systems security engineering considerations for systems engineering

  • Familiarity with INCOSE defined 30 lifecycle systems engineering processes

  • Familiarity with military operations

  • Familiarity with defensive cyberspace operations

  • Familiarity with embedded systems and RF concepts

  • Familiarity with Model Based System Engineering tools

  • Familiarity with digital engineering

  • Knowledge of reliability and/or safety engineering methods

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$140,700 - $190,200 - $268,200 Annual
