In MITRE's Electronic System Development and Embedded Security department, we apply this principle as we dig deep into hard problems to find innovative, practical ways to solve tough challenges for a variety of government sponsors across a range of technical applications.

We are currently seeking to grow our team with highly talented engineers, specifically those with experience implementing complex designs on cutting-edge FPGA platforms. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to architect and implement technical solutions for a wide range of challenges currently faced by our government sponsors. We specialize in rapid prototyping of advanced sensor, communication and navigation systems on real-time embedded platforms. As an applied research organization, we focus on capability development and demonstration while remaining decoupled from protracted product lifecycles and system support roles. Our world class labs provide a canvas for our team to conduct hands-on research and develop tangible solutions to support our military leaders and reinforce our nation’s defense.

Responsibilities include:

This position provides an exciting opportunity to design and prototype state of the art embedded systems using commercial and custom platforms. Key opportunities include:

  • Real-time communication and sensor systems leveraging state of the art FPGA & SoC technology and cutting-edge SDR platforms

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS and 5 years of relevant experience

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance

  • B.S. (or higher) in Electrical or Computer Engineering and 8+ years of related experience

  • Candidates should have a strong foundation in programming and experience with one or more RTL languages such as VHDL, Verilog/System Verilog, and a solid background with RTL synthesis and simulation tools

  • Experience implementing complex embedded systems

  • Experience with industry standard best practices for design, verification, test, and deployment

  • Experience integrating third-party Intellectual Property (IP) into custom designs

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering

  • Experience deploying on cutting-edge, reconfigurable SoC platforms (i.e. Xilinx MPSoC, Xilinx RFSoC, Intel Arria 10 SoC)

  • Experience with modern FPGA vendor EDA tools (Vivado, Quartus)

  • Strong digital signal processing skills and experience mapping signal processing algorithms to embedded hardware

  • Experience designing and implementing on heterogenous computing platforms (FPGA, CPU, GPU)

  • Familiarity with scripting languages and build tools (TCL, Python, cmake, etc.)

  • Technical leadership in FPGA design and verification methodologies (UVM, OVM)

  • Experience in communication, RADAR, and/or positioning/navigation systems

  • Experience with common electro-mechanical industry standards (i.e. VPX, FMC, MicroTCA)

  • Experience developing technical requirements targeting low-SWaP applications
