This role is part of the Purification and Pharma Analytics business management organization supporting the Innovation portfolio which provides biotechnology and biopharmaceutical customers with New Product Introductions and Custom solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated leader who can navigate complexities of a matrix organization to deliver to business growth aspirations.

Sr Manager’s responsibility is three-fold:

  • Build and drive processes for developing and managing the Purification new product development portfolio

  • Own and instill best Program Management practices, with the goal of not only delivering products of high quality and value to the organization, but also of delivering them within agreed-upon schedule, resources, budget, and scope

  • Functionally manages a team of program managers to lead new product development activities

Responsibilities:

Portfolio Management:

  • Partners with Business Unit (BU) product management, R&D, marketing & finance leadership to develop the BU strategy & annual plan, with respect to R&D utilization

  • Facilitates creation and implementation of an NPI portfolio roadmap, aligned with BU strategy

  • Leads regular review of the portfolio with BU leadership team, drives prioritization, status updates and revenue reporting for all BU New-Product-Introduction (NPI) programs

  • Facilitates NPI steering committee, also known as the Product Approval Committee (PAC)

  • Reports to the BU leadership team and contributes to monthly / quarterly reports and reviews (MBR / QBR) to represent Innovation Portfolio

Functional Management:

  • Communicates standards of program management role & responsibility. Provides feedback & coaching on performance, as well as creation of personal development plans to improve skill set, as needed

  • Provides feedback to drive NPI process improvements. Sponsors change initiatives & builds best practices regarding program management & product development

  • Hires, trains and assigns purification program management resources

How will you get here?

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or Life Science required; PMP certification, advanced leadership training, MS, MBA or Ph.D. preferred.

  • 10+ years of life science or medical device product development experience, including 2+ years each of portfolio management, people management, and technical project management experience required

Preferable Skills and Attributes:

  • Experience leading large complex projects / programs / portfolio with minimal direction

  • Ability to manage multiple project / programs (2+) and interface effectively with team members and across multiple departments and sites, as needed

  • Interacts and builds effective relationships with core and extended team members, functional managers, and senior management

  • Works on complex, multi-faceted problems where analysis may require in depth analysis, as well as imagination

  • Work is performed without significant direction and can recommend modifications to overall direction of portfolio or program to meet BU goals

  • Able to influence others, gain acceptance in sensitive situations and resolve conflict

  • Develops and delivers original persuasive presentations to larger groups

  • Gathers feedback on processes and drives practical improvements

  • Strong understanding of formal project / program / portfolio management methodologies

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or Lean Six Sigma certification is a plus

  • 10-25% travel, depending on location
