Due to growth - MITRE’s End-to-End Systems Engineering Department has an opportunity for a Principal Systems engineer with an interest in advancing and applying innovative systems engineering techniques to help solve some of our nation's most critical challenges in delivering services to citizens throughout defense and intelligence, aviation, homeland security, the judiciary, healthcare, and cybersecurity domains. We are looking for highly-motivated, adaptive, and self-directed candidates with a solid systems engineering foundation in or a motivation to build technical skills supporting the development and deployment of nationally important solutions through Systems Requirements and Architecture, System-of-Systems, Systems Thinking and Model-Based Systems Engineering practices.

Roles and Responsibilities:
As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will leverage and grow your systems engineering expertise to provide support across a variety of system development lifecycles, through the design, implementation, and integration of enterprise systems and system-of-systems for federal agencies. Specific responsibilities may include:
Apply cutting edge methods and tools (such as Model-Based Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, Machine Learning, Data Analytics) to assess designs, identify, and mitigate performance constraints and gaps, evaluate proposed changes, and support verification and test, to solve problems that make the world a safer place.
Advising government leaders in defining the context, problem space and vision to determine capabilities, priorities, road maps, and technology needs using modern system engineering approaches.
Leading large, complex efforts across government agencies.
Applying, systems engineering skills to drive a holistic approach to systems development and design.
Development of and participation in internal and external research opportunities in cutting edge engineering fields.
Working across MITRE to drive forward the state of practice in systems engineering, system of systems engineering and mission engineering.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or relevant technical discipline.
Minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience
Hands on expertise in applying Systems Engineering tools such as: MagicDraw, Cameo Enterprise Architecture, Rhapsody, Stella, iThink, Anylogic, Systemitool, or relevant SE design tools.
Ability to lead technical work in complex, muti-disciplinary and ambiguous situations large, complex, systems or systems of systems projects.
Strong interpersonal skills to develop a trusted advisor relationship with senior leaders, and effectively communicate and collaborate with multiple engineering/program disciplines with proven success in working across organizational boundaries to deliver results.
Proven track record of mentorship and leadership of technical staff
Demonstrated leadership in developing and leading new work utilizing modern systems engineering, mission engineering and systems of systems engineering methods.
Documented success developing and leading research efforts aimed at closing critical technology and operational gaps in large, complex organizations.
Hands on expertise developing and leading on detailed design, development and deployment programs on complex government systems.
Experience leading multi-disciplinary modeling and simulation (physics-level, engineering-level and operational-level) and working across an enterprise at multiple levels of abstraction.
Experience executing of Analysis of Alternatives, Verification and Validation, Design of Experiments, simulation design and/or data analytics technical work programs.
Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a DoD clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or relevant technical discipline.
Experience with extending Model Based Systems Engineering capabilities to drive data-driven analysis results to senior government leaders.
Experience working across organizational business units to deliver innovative solutions of value to both internal and external technical programs.
Candidates holding current / active US Government security clearance(s) are highly preferred.

$151,000 - $188,500 - $226,000 Annual
