MITRE is seeking an architect lead and systems engineer to join our Responsive Operational Planning team. You will guide modernization efforts and roadmap development and implementation to transition the current operational distributed common ground system to next-generation operational capability.

  • Working in concert with the Project Leader and as part of the larger MITRE project team, you develop future design and enhancements for the distributed common ground system enterprise architecture, infrastructure, and systems components. Planned efforts include combined mission infrastructure capability enhancements, infrastructure and transport modernization and integration, and future architecture/requirements planning

  • Integrate with sponsor team(s) and work as trusted partner with sponsor leadership in order to positively influence and shape the future (next generation) capabilities

  • Conduct and/or lead engineering studies, requirements analysis, technology assessments relevant to modernization

  • Develop program and technology roadmaps and corresponding implementation plans

  • Guide execution modernization efforts leading to next-gen capabilities

  • Contribute to strategic initiatives, MITRE deliverables, and MITRE recommendations leading to successful achievement of mission outcomes

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and possess a SECRET clearance with ability to qualify for and willingness to hold a TS/SCI DoD clearance

  • BS Degree and 5 years of related experience, preferably working technical challenges associated with enterprise architectures and distributed systems

  • Ability to collaborate across multiple teams working on large and diverse projects

  • Superior customer engagement and communication skills

  • Accountable for individual contributions

  • Knowledge and experience in two or more of the following areas

  • Enterprise Architecture

  • Distributed Systems

  • Systems Engineering (e.g., Requirements Analysis, Engineering Trade Studies, Technology Assessments, Technology Road-mapping)

  • Air Operations

  • Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional skills, specific tools, or knowledge of:

  • SW-intensive programs

  • Air Operation Center Weapon System

  • Advanced Battle Management System

  • Infrastructure and Networking HW/SW, protocols, architectures, routers, switches

  • Experience developing network service performance measurement criteria

  • Knowledge of tools for network performance and application monitoring, management, and troubleshooting Layer 2 and 3 long-haul communications networks, TCP/IP networks, and network architectures
