MITRE is looking for a highly motivated System Modeling Engineer with experience in software modeling. This is an opportunity for a highly motivated, innovative, and proactive individual.

This position provides challenging opportunities to apply and expand one’s systems architecture modeling, and tradespace analysis skills. Areas of interest include Digital Engineering (DE), Model Based Engineering, Modeling and Simulation, Systems of Systems (SoS), architecture modeling, and analysis of software-intensive systems applying data analysis techniques.

Responsibilities include:

  • Close collaboration across MITRE leading to high quality MITRE/DoD systems

  • Engage with design teams to build virtual systems for use in analyzing system performance

  • Support and collaborate with other teams building system level simulations using a range of models

  • Evaluate new technologies and consider new solution approaches to better enable users

  • Modeling architectures of complex systems using standards-based languages (ex. SysML / UML)

  • Evaluating and comparing alternative architectures using qualitative and quantitative techniques, applying data analytics using languages such as Python and R for the latter

  • Articulating major uncertainties associated with systems architectures, defining risks and opportunities associated with the uncertainties

  • Supporting requirements management, interface management and architecture change management processes

  • Translating analysis results into actionable recommendations for the US Government agencies

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires less than 1 year of related experience with a related Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.


  • Must be US Citizen

  • Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a TS/SCI and SAP DoD clearance.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent

  • Software development skills/experience

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to knowledge share and problem solve across teams

  • Focused and self-motivated with the ability to work independently with distributed teams

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Active SECERET Clearance

  • Strong understanding of full lifecycle development methodology skills including modern development processes (Agile development, scrum, DevOps, ALM/PLM).

  • Proficiency using UML/SysML, and experience with Model Based Engineering approaches, methods, and techniques, as well as tools such as Rhapsody, MagicDraw, Cameo, and Enterprise Architect.

  • Experience software development methods, and object-oriented programming skills, including one or more of the following: Java, Python, C++, C#

  • Data Analytics / Data Science skills, including one or more of the following languages and/or data visualization tools: Python, R, JavaScript, SQL, Tableau, Power BI

  • Familiarity with product lifecycle, trade studies, requirements, and interface definitions.

  • Interest in complex multi-disciplinary problems and ability to work with colleagues across engineering domains.

  • Ingenuity for applying a set of technical skills across multiple subject matter fields
