iRobot Corporation Technical Project Manager - Software and Robotics in Bedford, Massachusetts
As a Release Manager at iRobot, you will be responsible for cross-team coordination, dependency management, communication and processes. This is not just a process focus – this is a technical role where your understanding of software and software engineering will be essential to successfully orchestrating product releases. Your goal will be to coordinate all the details of end-to-end feature development across component project teams, such as network connectivity, software/firmware for different robot models, Cloud, 3rd party services, product IT. These individual teams each own aspects of the feature, but not the total result – that is your job!
The ideal candidate has worked in a successful Agile software development environment, with multiple scrum teams delivering components for an integrated product release, and is ready to bring their experience and enthusiasm to iRobot. This is a critical position within our high-performing teams that will require great organizational skills, communication skills, and a driven personality. If you are impassioned by working with smart engineers and helping them succeed we would love to hear from you.
Guide the teams and organization on how to orchestrate components to release a product feature. Components may be delivered independently and by different means (over-the-air firmware update, Cloud deployment, integration with 3rd parties).
Work with Product Management to reasonably scope and define feature requirements. Help to prioritize product roadmaps from a technical and delivery perspective.
Able to translate product requirements into technical aspects easily understood in terms and context of each component team. Understand different disciplines (robot software, mobile, distributed services) and how their work can be effectively integrated.
Drive cross-team, scaled Agile release coordination at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the teams and organization.
Coordinate with integrated system testing, 3rd party certifications, production tooling, and other aspects of “shipping” a release.
Concisely report feature release progress, status, cross-team milestones, issues and risk burn-down. Be the go-to leader.
Meaningful software technical background, including ability to understand how stories and components fit together into an overall product deliverable at a detail level.
Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful software engineering practices: User Stories, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, dual-track Agile.
Understand the different roles of project manager, product owners, contributing stakeholders, and how to balance their interests.
High level of emotional intelligence.
Scrum Master Certification is a plus.
