MITRE’s Corporate User ExperienceTeam is looking for a passionate user experience professional to anticipate theneeds of MITRE employees and enable them to excel in their jobs. This includesconducting primary research into employees’ needs and designing solutions tohelp them be as efficient as possible. We tackle a wide variety of technologiesto include award winning intranet applications, knowledge and contentmanagement systems (such as SharePoint and Drupal), mobile devices, and physicalwork spaces. We are also experimenting with technologies such as augmented reality(AR) and artificial / cognitive workplace assistants.

Key Functions

  • Impact the company’s evolution by translating user research and employeeneeds into actionable business plans.

  • Plan and execute a variety of mixed method researchstudies to develop a deep understanding of business processes along with thechallenges and needs facing MITRE employees in doing their best work.

  • Translate user research and employee needs intoactionable plans by producing functional requirements, user stories, journeymaps, personas, and wireframes.

  • Create and validate user centered designs for a widerange of products and technologies including internet sites, intranet sites, desktopapplications, mobile applications, voice interfaces, training materials, andeven physical office spaces.

  • Partner with cross-disciplinary teams to includeproduct owners, graphic designers, software developers and end users todetermine how best to implement design solutions.

  • Identify efficient user journeys and integrationpoints for COTs and SAAS solutions.

  • Ensure that end users receive the best possibleproducts while business clients receive excellent service from the inception ofa project through its completion.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree inin Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Information Science or a relatedfield plus 5-7 years of experience.

  • Experience developing product wireframes orprototypes including proficiency in the use of design software such asBalsamiq,Axure,Photoshop, or something similar.

  • Experience designing the information architectures ofcomplex systems.

  • Solid understanding of systems/software engineeringpractices, user experience best practices, and usability principles.

  • Able to design and conduct user studies using avariety of methods such as interviews, surveys, field observation, andlaboratory studies (e.g. usability testing).

  • Experience analyzing and reporting from qualitativeand quantitative data sources.

  • Ability to effectively translate and communicate research findings into designoptions for a product.

  • Proven organizational skills and the ability tomeet deadlines with great efficiency and attention to detail while working on multipleprojects simultaneously.

  • Solid project management skills including the draftingof schedules and the identification of milestones and project deliverables.

  • US Citizenship.

  • Portfolio required.

Nice to have qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, InformationScience or a related field.

  • Experience designing for corporate intranets andenterprise applications. Knowledge of intelligent digital assistants,recommender systems, and search would also be very helpful.

  • Experience with SharePoint, WordPress, and/or Drupal is strongly desired.

  • Experience designing accessible web sites and applications is stronglydesired.

  • Familiarity with web technologies such as CSS, HTML, and JavaScript is aplus, but not required.

  • Agile and responsive design experience is appreciated.

  • Leadership or mentoring experience preferred.

  • Experience using web analytics or system log data.
