The MITRE Corporation Wireless Communications Engineer in Bedford, Massachusetts

With a growing work program in communications that includes development in 5G, wireless technology, and satellite communications, we are seeking strong candidates to help lead strategic planning, research efforts, and technology development, assessment, and testing that support sponsor missions. We are seeking talented and forward-thinking engineers who are interested in joining our team and applying their technical expertise towards solving key technology problems in communications.

We are interested in candidates with expertise in the following or related areas:

  • 5G or other wireless technologies

  • RF communications theory, including modulations, link budgets, error correction coding, channel effects, communications protocols, etc.

  • Digital signal processing, detection and estimation theory, information theory

  • Some understanding or experience with military or commercial communications systems

Additionally, experience in the following areas would be compelling:

  • Effectively lead small teams in analysis and technical development

  • Interaction with sponsors, including helping to set the project direction, briefing results, and developing and presenting analytically-based conclusions and recommendations

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree and 5 years of experience

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Required qualifications:

  • BS and 5 years of experience or MS and 3 years of experience

  • Knowledge in communications concepts such as modulation, link budgets, propagation, coding, channel modeling, filtering, spectral analysis

  • Strong analytical skills and familiarity with modeling and simulation tools such as Matlab

  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills

  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance

Preferred qualifications:

  • Laboratory experience related to wireless communications technologies

  • Experience with SDRs

  • Knowledge of signal processing concepts such as detection, estimation, array processing, and spectral analysis methods

  • Knowledge of stochastic processes and probabilistic modeling techniques

  • Knowledge of anti-jam (AJ) and low probability of intercept/detection (LPI/LPD) techniques

  • Ability to lead small teams for analysis and technical development

  • Ability to interact with sponsors, including helping to set the project direction, briefing results, and developing and presenting analytically-based conclusions and recommendations
