Job Description

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Organize, direct and report on all quality-related activities for the FLIR products and processes in your assigned workcell

  • Develop, communicate, and manage a strategy/plan for addressing quality improvements

  • Establish and communicate workcell quality metrics and goals

  • Manage, lead, and develop any Quality Engineers assigned to the workcell (if applicable)

  • Develop, signoff, implement, and maintain technical quality plans for new and existing products

  • Lead Quality NPI requirements through meeting attendance and deliverable completion for Quality Plans, Reliability Plans, DVT/Qualification support, FMEAs, MSAs, and SPC Plans (if applicable)

  • Attend and provide value/input to daily Production Tac meetings

  • Perform deviation investigations into quality issues involving design, production, and suppliers

  • Support qualifications of changes and co-ordinate associated change control activities

  • Ensure compliance and develop new QMS procedures and policies

  • Ensure proper approval and documentation practices are followed for deviations, change control, procedures, documentation, and specifications

  • Lead various QMS activities at the facility to include Internal Audits, Mgt Review Meetings, CARs/PARs, Data analysis, complaints, etc.

  • Lead investigation of customer complaints that ensures adequate investigation and corrective actions are taken

  • Attend and present at customer meetings involved with quality issues

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and lead lean & kaizen activities

  • Develop acceptance criteria for purchased (outsourced) product performance and recommend and implement applicable improvements

  • Support Supplier Quality team with supplier development initiatives, including supplier performance management, supplier certification, process improvements, cost reduction, Six Sigma/Lean integration, audits, and selection activities

  • May lead audits of some suppliers and provide guidance and approval of new suppliers and processes for new product

  • Own workcell quality data responsibilities for design, manufacturing, and product returns, using statistical analysis, to correct and prevent quality problems

  • Perform hands on testing with engineering and production teams to identify failure mechanisms

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments

  • Understand and work towards achieving the department goals

Minimum Qualifications:

Education Required/ Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific or technical field



  • Minimum Five (5) years’ experience in a Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering or Reliability Engineering function

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in: Design Quality, Manufacturing Quality, and Quality improvement

  • Working knowledge of inspection and test techniques, quality assurance procedures, statistical analysis, design quality / risk mitigation

  • Demonstrated track record of effectively influencing and negotiating with other functions and suppliers and leading effective/successful change initiatives


  • Able to develop and audit QMS procedures in accordance to ISO 9001 requirements

  • Working knowledge of the Military standard MIL-STD-810 is a plus

  • GD&T knowledge

  • ASQ certification is a plus

  • Six Sigma and/or Lean experience highly desired (trained or certified)

  • Knowledge of electrical components/assemblies (PCB’s cables, IC’s), optical components (lenses, mirrors, coatings/plating), mechanical & fabricated material (castings, chassis, motors), a plus


  • Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to proactively take initiative and complete tasks in a timely manner

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal communication skills - ability to work well with both technical and non-technical personnel, and influence the direction of projects

  • Ability to plan and organize workload under minimum supervision

  • Good problem-solving skills, analytical and statistical problem-solving tools

  • Working knowledge of software programs - Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Minitab

  • SAP Experience is a plus

  • Experience in data warehouse / SQL / Python is a plus
