Manulife AVP Program Management in Boston, Massachusetts

The opportunity

The AVP, Program Management role is a key position on the Retirement Transformation team. This role reports to the Global Head, Retirement Transformation and provides program management and oversight support for programs and projects in GWAM Retirement. The successful candidate will manage and track the execution against project plans, provide supervision of projects to ensure successful completion within prescribed time frames and budgets. You must identify issues and escalate as required, recommend solutions to keep projects on track, monitor and report on financials, and provide transparent status communications.

The key focus of this role is to lead assigned programs to successful completion by working collaboratively with Workstream Leads, Executive Sponsors, and key partners. You will need to act as an extension of leadership on many initiatives which cut across functional groups.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective management of program budgets, including estimation, vendor invoice management and tracking. This includes continuous review and setup of action plans to improve program cost savings, reduce rework, and effectively use resources.

  • Lead the tracking and follow up execution activities against project plans; provide transparent status communications and recommend solutions to keep projects on track.

  • Lead deep dives into problem areas and articulately present material required for stakeholder decision making.

  • Facilitate accurate prioritization, issue escalation and stakeholder decision making, through leadership of Program Steering and Operating Committees.

  • Provide inputs and assist with the development of materials and updates through Company and Segment level project governance forums (e.g. Transformation Committee, DOA Forum, etc.).

  • Act as “second in command” for the PMO/Command Centre team.

What we are looking for

  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in progressively senior positions with a minimum of 10 years experience as a Project/Program Manager. This includes implementation of effective project management processes, governance models, tools, reporting, and metrics.

  • Extensive US Retirement Industry experience, with prior experience implementing US Retirement recordkeeping platforms/ecosystems and an understanding of regulatory requirements and emerging trends.

  • Advanced communication, negotiation, influencing and facilitation skills; ability to create ‘win-win’ outcomes and to elicit cooperation across the business in the implementation of programs.

  • Demonstrates appropriate flexibility when required and will be comfortable with ambiguity, while shifting from macro to micro issues, from shaping the strategy agenda through to the day-to-day implementation.

  • Proven track record to establish and build healthy working relationships and partnerships with business leaders, peers, clients and team.

  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and excel in a complex and evolving portfolio.

  • Strong analytical, financial and balanced decision-making skills.

Salary range is expected to be between

$148,400.00 USD - $275,500.00 USD
