AVP, Talent Development Leader - Learner Experience

This learning technology leadership role is responsible for collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders to co-create and execute on Zurich North America’s learning technology and metrics strategy. This means, working with others across the organization to help develop a future state view of the learner experience and learning metrics, developing and implementing a roadmap to achieve that view, and to support learning program initiatives in Talent Development. This role will be partner with other business unit leaders and forge strong networks and relationships with key stakeholder groups.

The individual in this role collaborates with key internal and external stakeholders to define the most effective development approach and does so by identifying a range of possible options, scoping effort, defining objectives, articulating a delivery solution, establishing pilot initiatives and ensuring the sustainable roll-out of new programs. The individual in this role is active in seeking out innovation to enhance the transfer of learning and deepen the learning experience.

Key Accountabilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Leads learner experience team to execute on Zurich North America’s learning technology strategy; advances learning strategies through development of the learning approach, leveraging appropriate learning technologies and modalities

  • Partners with learning leaders and others across Zurich North America to articulate the measurement strategy to measure the impact of learning across the organization; ensures continual improvement metrics are in place to continually raise the bar on talent development programs

  • Partners with stakeholders throughout Zurich and leverages data to inform key audience selection and develop an understanding of needs in terms of competencies

  • Contributes thought leadership to broad learning strategies that support leadership development and upskilling/reskilling

  • Strengthens existing partnerships with external parties to co-create learning solutions

  • Works collaboratively across various functions (business and HR) to maximize alignment from idea generation to solution development

  • Leverages design thinking, learning needs analysis expertise, and other innovative approaches to deeply understand the business and development needs and ensure a pre-eminent learner experience

  • Develops standardized processes to simplify the work of the team and ensure accountability, collaborating with other teams as necessary

Additional Job Functions:

  • Conducts external research to identify new trends and best practices to integrate leading learning technologies

  • Serves as a thought partner to other Regions and Group in matters related to learning technology and measuring business impact

  • Contribute to learning governance, partnering with technical training teams, to develop and drive the adoption of consistent learning standards and best-in-class learning approaches to ensure best learner experience

  • Engage as part of the Talent Development leadership team in scaling and scoping cross-functional projects and staffing resources

Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7 or more years of experience in Learning and Development, Human Resources, Information Technology, or Operations


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 9 or more years of experience in Learning and Development, Human Resources, Information Technology, or Operations


  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 7 or more years of experience in the experience in Learning and Development, Human Resources, Information Technology, or Operations


  • 3 or more years of people management experience

  • Experience with instructional design practices and principle for modalities and delivery methods

  • Project management experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills


  • Experience with learning technologies, including LMS technology

  • Ability to leverage Excel and reporting tools

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and learning agility skills

  • Advanced degree in computer science, psychology, business, human resource development or related field.

  • Experience working through others cross-functionally to drive outcomes and results
