Penn Foster Business Intelligence SQL Developer in Boston, Massachusetts

Position Summary:

The Business Intelligence (BI) SQL Developer is responsible for developing database solutions to store and retrieve company information. The BI SQL Developer provides technical support for the database environment including the development and organization of databases.

The BI SQL Developer is a part of the Business Intelligence team and partners with the DBA(s) to ensure that all database platforms are properly maintained and function at optimal levels and efficiently utilize system resources. The BI SQL Developer also partners with the Engineering team(s) to ensure that application interfacing with database platforms are developed in a manner that effectively and efficiently leverage the capabilities of the database server platforms.

Essential Job Functions:

Database Development Responsibilities

  • Develop database solutions to store and retrieve company information.

  • Develop and support SQL Server Stored Procedures.

  • Designing database tables and structures

  • Creating views, functions and stored procedures

  • Writing optimized SQL queries for integration with other applications

  • Maintaining data quality and overseeing database security

  • Develop and support Data Replication software to CDC (change data capture) data from various sources including Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Develop and support Scheduling software which runs all batch jobs and stored procedures.

  • Develop and support integration with 3rd Party API?s in the sending and receiving of data.

  • Participate in database planning and code review sessions to ensure databases are well designed and organized for performance.

  • Collaborate with the Engineering teams to ensure that database server capabilities are properly leveraged in the development of new applications.

Other Administration Responsibilities

  • Maintain corporate Meta Data (Data Dictionary) for all data elements used in the enterprise data warehouse.

  • Play active role in planning of storage for the enterprise data warehouse.

  • 24x7 on-call to respond service disruptions in critical systems.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent work experience and advanced certifications)

  • Proven work experience as a SQL Developer

  • Experience with Microsoft T-SQL

  • Experience gathering and analyzing system requirements

  • In-depth understanding of database structure principles

  • Proven analytical skills

  • Problem-solving attitude

  • Experience with Data Warehouse and Data Lake methodologies a plus

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016 a plus

  • Knowledge of Cloud-based Data Warehouse solutions a plus

  • Knowledge of Automation and Job Scheduling tools (Active Batch by Advanced Systems Concepts) a plus

  • Knowledge of Data Replication tools (StarQuest) a plus

  • Knowledge of Extract, Transformation, Load (ETL) tools (Informatica) a plus

  • Knowledge of working with 3rd Party API?s a plus

  • Knowledge of SAP BusinessObjects a plus

  • Knowledge of SAP Analytics Cloud (SAAS) a plus

  • Knowledge of Tableau a plus
