Oracle Consulting Practice Director in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description

This director position is responsible for managing business operations and resources of a given practice that can be defined by industry, service line, technology center, specialty area or region. Responsible for managing the three main pillars of a practice: people management, portfolio/delivery management and sales enablement. Has profit and loss responsibility or financial/expense management of practice.

Accountable for operational/financial metrics and overall business results of practice. Responsible for maintaining strategic direction, ensuring profitable growth of the practice, quality of consulting delivery, and maintaining customer referenceability. Develops strategy and plans to successfully implement operational policies and achieve business objectives. Accountable for managing and growing a significant revenue stream and customer base. Typically manages multiple first line managers and/or senior level individual contributors. Resolves staffing issue in complex engagements. May serve as advisor or project sponsor role for moderately complex engagements.

10+ years of experience relevant to this position including 5 years of consulting experience and 2 years of project management leadership experience. Direct line Management experience including project, people, customer, financial management preferred. Product, technology or industry expertise relevant to the practice focus. Ability to develop and maintain relationships at the executive level. Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience. Ability to travel as needed.

Oracle’s Communications Consulting (OCC) organization is seeking a Consulting Practice Director who will be responsible for leading a team of 4G and 5G architect managers and 5G consulting solution engineers who are responsible for implementing our products and solutions in customer environments. The candidate will also work closely with the Oracle’s OCC sales staff, Engineering/R&D, Customer Support, and Product Line Management to ensure the customer’s experience is positive and the deployment of the solutions is successful. This candidate is expected to:

  • Show technical mastery of CNE/Cloud infrastructure

  • Display technical leadership to lead the team to create 5G cloud-based solutions

  • Grow technical capabilities of the team for CNE/Cloud-based 5G Network Functions

  • Lead continuous efforts relating to Performance Optimization/automation/scripting

  • Lead the team responsible for 5G Service-based Integration/Interoperability/automated testing

  • Lead customer escalations and engagements

  • Provide levels of effort for new opportunities

  • Work with Oracle’s Pre-Sales team to support activities such as demonstrations, trials, and solution scope definitions.

  • Mentor team members to provide top-level customer advocacy and support and assist project managers with project planning and scheduling.

Consulting Practice Director will bring:

  • Expertise in 5G innovative service-based architecture and 5G 3GPP standards

  • Familiarity with Oracle Communications Cloud Native (CN) based 5G (PCF, NRF, SCP, IWF, UDR, NSSF, SEPP, SLF, BSF, etc.) and 4G virtual diameter signaling router (vDSR) solutions including ATS (Automated Test Suit) or equivalent products

  • Knowledge of system implementation design and architect, network integration, system provisioning, capacity analysis, special feature implementation, test plan creation and execution. CI/CD knowledge is a plus.

  • Knowledge of service delivery activities including on-site and remote implementation of new systems, technical discussions, and explanations of proposed solutions with customers, development of methods of procedure and other documentation as required by the customer.

  • Knowledge of design and creation of use cases, call flows, policy rules, routing rules, and database query logic/scripts based on customer’s business and service use cases.

  • Ability to interpret and develop detailed network/system drawings and excellent problem solving/analytical skills required for technical escalations

  • Knowledge and experience with platforms framework and operating Systems: Linux/Unix, Windows, Cloud Native (CN), Kubernetes (K8s), Grafana, Kibana, Prometheus, Jaeger, Jenkins, Selenium, HP Rack-mount server & Server Blade platform. CNE (OpenShift or VMWare or Oracle), Openstack, and Kubernetes certification preferred

  • Ability to effectively lead competing activities and changing priorities while in critical situations

  • Willingness to travel up to 50%


  • BS required, Computer/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience

  • 15+ years’ experience in implementation of large-scale service provider network infrastructures

  • 5+ years’ experience as a Consulting Director or equivalent role in the Telecom Architecture/Design/Consulting industry.

  • CCNP or equivalent IP networking and K8s/cloud (OCI/AWS) certification is a plus.
