Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a highly talented and experienced Design Program Manager for immediate employment in our Boston office. This individual should have significant experience with managing design, operations and construction projects for pharmaceutical, science or health research and development capital improvement programs. This leadership position requires the technical skills to effectively manage new, replacement, and renovation projects, coordinating the work of the project and controls management team while delivering excellent customer service to the client leadership, user groups and staff.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform comprehensive operations oversight of the activities and status of the design, consulting, and construction teams throughout design/construction phase

  • Collaborate and partner with client to provide strategic planning and delivery of office and laboratory improvements to client’s real estate portfolio

  • Report to Regional Program Manager with weekly communications

  • Develop and implement action plans for each project team

  • Monitor project completion within budget, schedule, and conformance with client standards, design program, and construction documents

  • Analyze and recommend value based design and delivery strategies for different program components to offer cost, schedule, quality and coordination savings and benefits

  • Proactively manage and resolve project conflicts resulting from scheduling and budgeting/cost compliance conflicts, unforeseen conditions, owner requested changes, and user group requests

  • Provide leadership and coordination for team operations through planning, design, and construction processes with a results-driven management approach

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture

  • 10+ years of experience with project management and program management of pharmaceutical, science or health research and development type capital improvement programs and projects

  • Familiarity with construction management, project controls (cost and schedule), web based collaboration PMIS or similar platform

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook)

  • Strong experience in leadership roles with pharmaceutical, science or health research and development capital improvement programs to include design and construction management efforts

  • Report effectively in written/oral form of project progress, budget status, issues and resolutions to program leadership and client stakeholders

  • Versed in cost control, scheduling, change management and contract management expectations in alignment with the PMO (Project Management Office)

  • Ability to lead multiple project teams with concurrent projects.

  • Experience managing team with 10+ staff is required

  • Experience developing work plans, budgets and scope definition for multi-project engagements

  • Experience with integrated project delivery

  • Effective negotiation and dispute resolution skills are a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

  • Registered Architect

  • Strong experience at leadership levels for capital improvement program teams

  • Preference for research and development laboratory programs experience
