Job Description Summary

The Director, Content Development - Sustainability and Legal Operations is responsible for creating and delivering design, written, and/or multimedia content on projects with medium to large complexity. Specifically, this individual will assist with communications relating to Travelers' sustainability efforts (most notably, Travelers' public-facing sustainability reporting) and assist with Legal Services communications initiatives.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

Travelers Sustainability Office Duties

Leads annual content update of Travelers’ sustainability site, including:

  • Identifying and engaging with appropriate internal subject matter experts with respect to each substantive section of the site and liaising with internal resources on the collection of photos and graphics.

  • Drafting, editing and validating content to ensure that it is accurate, represents the “voice of Travelers” and resonates with institutional investors and other stakeholders.

  • Managing multiple versions of the various subsections of the site.

  • Engaging with vendors/outside partners, as necessary.

  • Partnering closely with the Chief Sustainability Officer and others to define the strategy for Travelers’ sustainability reporting and prepare it for publication on an annual basis.

  • Working closely with Corporate Communications with respect to communicating internally and externally about Travelers’ sustainability efforts.

  • Making recommendations regarding potential enhancements to Travelers’ sustainability reporting.

Legal Services Operations Duties

Lead the development, implementation, and execution of written communications and related material (PowerPoint presentations, multi-media assets, press releases, etc.) in support of Legal Services initiatives and programs, including:

  • Working with Legal Operations and Corporate Communications in the planning and execution of communications related to Legal Services events, such as Quarterly Webcasts and Speaker Series.

Assist Corporate Communications with processes related to:

  • Drafting and updating content for Legal Services, including for the Legal Services intranet, and partnering with General Counsel and Legal Services Senior Leadership Team to ensure information on the intranet is accurate and up-to-date.

  • Reviewing and editing communications from cross-functional teams, legal groups, and other authors within Legal Services for distribution.

  • Measuring effectiveness of communications through qualitative and quantitative methods, and identifying and implementing process improvements as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 years of related content development/written communications experience.

  • Requires intermediate level of knowledge of the creative development, design, communications, production and media planning functions and the ability to integrate and coordinate internal and external resources.

  • Advanced writing and editing skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders and with executive leadership.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience preferred. Typical incumbent experience level 6-8 years of communications/content development experience.

  • General insurance industry knowledge.

  • Strong organizational understanding.

  • Strong understanding of the Travelers brand.

  • Thorough knowledge of company products and marketing strategies. Thorough knowledge of digital design, flow and site organization.

  • Thorough experience in identifying and consulting with customer/client base on appropriate communication/content approaches.

  • Experience communicating to investor audience.

  • Experience working within a Legal Services Environment.

  • Law degree may be beneficial.

Job Specific Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills. Strong ability to interact with executives and leaders across the enterprise.
