Merck Director, Digital Quality & Labs Value Team, Digital MMD in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description

This leadership role, within Digital our Company Manufacturing Division, will help formulate and execute Digital Quality & Labs’ strategic vision by building innovative AI/ML-powered solutions and data visualizations to accelerate data-driven decision making for Quality & Labs shop floor personnel and management. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders and ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of Data Science, AI/ML, and Analytics solutions to improve process efficiency and product quality, and enhance our compliance.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Build and oversee Digital Quality and Labs analytics initiatives

  • Be a trusted partner for Quality business stakeholders and help identify, prioritize, deliver, and measure impact of data science projects that support business objectives.

  • Contribute actively to build/revise Digital Quality and Labs strategies by providing thought leadership around data strategy elements such as data management, data architecture, data integration, and master data management.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Owners, Global and Site Quality, IT, and Digital Services to ensure alignment and consistency in data science initiatives.

  • Work closely with product owners to understand business requirements, translate it to technical requirements, rapidly assess feasibility, and ensure smooth transition to Digital Services team for scale-up.

  • Build data science solutions that generate actionable insights, and lead the development of data visualization tools, dashboards, and reports that provide clear and concise data-driven insights.

  • Leverage existing infrastructure and solutions as necessary to accelerate delivery while build new solutions with rapid, global scale-up in consideration.

  • Monitor data quality and integrity, ensuring that data science solutions are accurate and reliable.

  • Manage relationships with analytics vendors, ensuring that vendors meet performance metrics and contractual obligations.

  • Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Embrace agile product development methodology and manage the project lifecycle, including scoping, planning, execution, and delivery of technology-enabled solutions.

  • Apply compliance/validation requirements related to GMP-regulated applications.

  • Steer as a thought and execution lead for moderate to large initiatives of varying complexity

  • Support technology-driven analytics (e.g., NLP, AI/ML) in advancing quality and compliance.

  • Act as a mentor for junior data scientists within Digital our Manufacturing Division, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Education Requirements and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related quantitative field and six (6) years of experience in data science and analytics

  • Master of Science (MS) degree in Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related quantitative field and four (4) years of experience in data science and analytics

Required Experience and Skills :

  • Strong technical skills in data science tools such as Python/R, Pyspark, SQL, Dataiku, Databricks, and Artificial Intelligence & machine learning frameworks (regression, classification, clustering, natural language processing, etc.).

  • In-depth knowledge and experience with cloud technologies: Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.

  • Experience in building and publishing dashboards and reports using data visualization tools such as Power BI, Qlik, Spotfire.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex data science projects and delivering high-quality solutions on time and within budget.

  • Ability to communicate appropriately and confidently with colleagues from different backgrounds and seniority levels.

  • Experience in developing and implementing data strategies that drive business results.
