State of Massachusetts Director of Information Technology in Boston, Massachusetts

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the overall operation of the Information Technology Division, oversees all technology related projects, introduces new technology for the advancement and betterment of the Department. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the general supervision of the Sheriff and under the direct supervision of the Superintendent. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Supervises assigned staff, vendors, and contractors. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Responsible for operation and maintenance of all Department technology inclusive of Microsoft Servers, MPLS Firewalls, Avigilion Video Surveillance and S-2 Security Systems; 1. Installs technology updates and end user modifications on Department systems; 1. Creates, implements and ensures compliance Department policies on technology and security; 1. Ensures routine maintenance and updates to Department software, systems and security access; 1. Identifies and introduces of new technology to advance the capabilities of Department operations; 1. Serves as project manager for various Division and Department projects under various priorities and deadlines concurrently; 1. Effectively supervises and trains Division staff; 1. Complies with all written policies and procedures; and 1. Performs other duties and assignments as may be assigned. QUALIFICATIONS 1. Prior experience with Offender Management System (OMS) preferred; 1. Prior experience with Aviglion Video Surveillance preferred; 1. Prior experience with Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) preferred; 1. Prior experience with Massachusetts Inmate Data Network (MIDNet) Systems preferred; 1. Experience providing technical and customer support preferred; 1. Experience with Windows 10, Microsoft Office; 1. Experience with inventory, purchasing and recruitment management software systems; 1. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; 1. Ability to interact with the public in a pleasant and discreet manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels throughout the organization, in other agencies, and in private industry. High levels of customer service, independence, leadership and willingness to write and maintain documentation. Must perform duties with a high degree of confidentiality; 1. Ability to complete moderate to complex level of qualitative and quantitative analyses. Strong analytic and problem solving skills are required. Ability to write effectively and maintain technical documentation. Attention to detail is crucial. Need for creativity, flexibility and organizational skills. Ability to maintain accurate records; and 1. Ability to recognize networking or administrative problems and to recommend solutions to improve efficiency. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Install service patches, execute daily software backups and perform routine maintenance on department systems; 1. Add, delete and modify users in department application systems and directories as needed; 1. Creation, implementation, and maintenance of department firewalls, security access points and VPN access; 1. Effective supervision and training of Division staff; 1. Regular, punctual and predictable attendance at assigned workplace with ability to work nights and/or weekends for various projects as needed; 1. Knowledge of, compliance with, and enforcement of Department, as well as I.T. Division, policies and procedures; 1. Compliance with security procedures; 1. Obeying moderately complex oral and written orders; 1. Communicating orally and in writing; 1. Dealing calmly and effectively with stressful situations, including emergencies; and 1. Exercising good judgment. MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS FOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Ability to lift 50 pounds overhead; 1. Ability to work under desks and service seven foot tall servers; 1. Ability to do overhead work; 1. Ability to read instrumentation and document recordings in logbooks and computer programs; 1. Ability to effectively communicate with others; and 1. Ability to sit, stand and walk for periods of at least eight (8) hours. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION Participation in mandatory training.
