Joslin Diabetes Center Director of Project Management and Process Improvement in Boston, Massachusetts

Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Project Management and Process Improvement is responsible for building and improving Joslin’s capabilities in project management and process improvement and developing actionable systems for performance improvement and accountability in all areas of the organization.

The Director will manage projects, train, support and empower staff in project management techniques. The Director will lead and train managers in the development and use of key performance indicators and knowledge documentation, helping to develop and support a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Project Management

  • Manage major administrative and other projects, including projects related to integration with Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH), clinic and research operational projects.

  • Utilize best practice project management systems to assure projects have a clear and transparent communication plan, schedule, actions and deliverables.

Staff Training

  • Develop a suite of project management tools and techniques (including those available through BILH) to train and support Joslin staff with their own projects. Conduct training sessions and act as a consultant to others in creating and managing project plans.

Process improvement

  • Support Joslin leaders in process improvement in all departments, such as conducting workflow analysis to make improvement suggestions, sharing best practices for meeting management, documenting procedures and processes, utilization of software tools for collaboration (e.g., Office365)

Key Performance Indicators

  • Partner with senior leaders to develop actionable key metrics in each business area

  • Work with IT and others to create appropriate reporting

  • Train managers on use of KPIs in managing performance and developing a culture of accountability

  • Develop a transparent reporting system (intranet) for KPI reporting/sharing

Knowledge Management

  • Utilize knowledge management tools (Office 365) to develop methodology for organization documentation of knowledge, processes and procedures

  • Introduce and train staff in best practices for knowledge management/documentation

  • Assure it is a system that will be accessible to all employees. Monitor and report on adoption and use.

Other related duties as assigned and/or required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred (MBA/MPH)

  • Minimum of 10 years progressive project management experience, ideally in a healthcare setting.

  • Demonstrated success in bringing large complex, concurrent projects to completion.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing key performance indicators and success in implementation and use.

  • Demonstrated superior skills in use of project management software systems, including Office365 Teams and SharePoint.

  • Advanced communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills including ability to define priorities provide clear direction and to work effectively with physicians, scientists and other team members.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively at all levels of complex organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with all members of the organization in ways that enhance understanding, respect, cooperation, and problem solving
