Federal Reserve System Director, Product Management in Boston, Massachusetts

The Director, Product Management for the Applied Fintech Research Division will forward the Federal Reserve System’s efforts to build, manage, and test software to further its understandings of digital currency. The Product Manager will work closely with engineering, operations, policy, and design to continue our efforts to build a hypothetical general purpose digital currency.

Project Hamilton

The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston is developing a hypothetical central bank digital currency (CBDC) with researchers from the Digital Currency Initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Titled Project Hamilton, this research will assist the Federal Reserve in more deeply understanding technology tradeoffs among design options, and will result in the open source publication of software to support central bank digital currency research. This position is a unique opportunity to be a part of this leading research effort between the Federal Reserve and MIT.

Job Summary :

The Director, Product Management for the Applied Fintech Research Division will forward the Federal Reserve System’s efforts to build, manage, and test software to further its understandings of digital currency. The Product Manager will work closely with engineering, operations, policy, and design to continue our efforts to build a hypothetical general purpose digital currency.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Own product development for the FRBB on its hypothetical CBDC research

  • Strategically direct the evolution of the CBDC research based on input from engineering, operations, design, and policy stakeholders

  • Integrate emerging engineering, design, and policy research into the product roadmap

  • Manage priorities between engineering, operations, policy, design, and other stakeholders to ensure successful execution of product

  • Define and analyze metrics to guide product development and progress of team and stakeholder efforts towards established goals

  • Align teams on a shared vision and steer execution on that vision.

Knowledge and Experience

  • 3+ years of product management experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver successful product, preferably in the digital currency space

  • Demonstrated understanding of techniques and methods of product delivery

  • Technical experience with analytical tools, methodologies, and design

  • Exception interpersonal communication, relationship management, and organizational skills

  • Deep analytical, prioritization, and problem solving skills

  • Previous experience working in software product management

  • Demonstrated passion for digital currency, financial markets, and the public mission of the Federal Reserve System

  • Experience working on open-source software a plus.
