Microsoft Corporation Director, Responsible AI Policy & Practice in Boston, Massachusetts

Microsoft is committed to ensuring that we develop and deploy our Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in ways that uphold our AI principles and warrant peoples trust. The Office of Responsible AI (ORA) plays a leading role in this effort as part of Microsofts Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA) team. With a cross-company mandate, we establish internal policy for how our engineering and sales teams implement responsible AI practices, enable our community of Responsible AI Champs to support the rollout of our responsible AI program, and review engineering and customer projects that require additional input based on potential impact. We also contribute to new laws, norms, and standards to advance responsible AI for the benefit of society at large. This Director role would be part of ORAs Internal Policy & Practice team and support the implementation efforts for our Responsible AI Standard.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Implement policies and measurement strategies for generative AI harms, working in collaboration with AI platform, research, and data science teams.

  • Design, develop, and program methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze Responsible AI research and data.

  • Translate Responsible AIStandards, research, and policy into effectivecontrols and scalable implementation practices. This includes consulting stakeholders and designing repeatable frameworks, templates, and guidance for machine learning teams across the company to use.

  • Integrate industry-wide responsible AI policy and ethics insights and best practices to anticipate risks and identify technical blockers to the implementation of the Responsible AI Standard. Leverage technical expertise to develop partnerships across disciplines to lead the development of new or modified tools, technologies, and methods to mitigate risks and overcome blockers.

  • Drives development and implementation of automation to support teams across the company comply with the Responsible AI Standard.

Qualifications

Required Q ualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 8+ years work experience in program management, process management, process improvement

  • OR equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree or academic research related to policy development and implementation, particularly related to technology and impact on people and society.

  • Experience inin large-scale computing, modeling, or applied research or data science.

  • OR Bachers Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field.

  • Experience working in or with a large, matrixed organization.

  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills.

  • Proven track record of being able to engage and influence a variety of stakeholders. A key attribute will be the ability to work across multiple disciplines and cultures.

  • Demonstrated record of being an effective team player dedicated to collective successes. The ability to promote cooperation and solve problems in a timely, creative, and professional manner. Proficiency at working closely and collaboratively with multiple departments and executives, and in cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to rapidly changing environments and demands.

  • Record of experimentation, learning from both successes and failures.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the companys core values, including a commitment to high ethical standards, unquestioned integrity, and a commitment to advancing the companys diversity & inclusion commitments.

Business Program Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $292,200 per year.
