JOB SUMMARY

Provides Data Engineering leadership for Marriott’s Modern Data Platform. Leads the implementation of new platform capabilities and enterprise data products. Responsible for the end to end delivery of multiple concurrent data initiatives, from initial inception through final delivery. Builds and manages teams consisting of Marriott Associates and Service Provider Partners to execute initiative delivery. Builds relationships and collaborates with Global Technology teams across the enterprise to delivery data initiatives. Ensures that data initiatives are delivered on time, within budget and to Marriott standards and quality expectations. Leads direct reports providing coaching and mentoring to enable Associate growth and advancement within the organization. Manages complex budgets in excess of $10M in direct and indirect costs. Builds and maintains relationships with Marriott GDSAO business discipline.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

Required:

  • 9+ years’ of application development leadership experience with 1 years at Director or equivalent level

  • Three years’ recent experience with modern Enterprise Data platforms including Cloud Data Platform, Business Intelligence, and Data Warehouse technologies

  • Five years’ leading enterprise data initiatives and familiarity with new emerging development frameworks.

  • Direct management of complex budgets of $5M direct and indirect costs

  • Direct management of cross functional, sourced, direct reports or matrixed teams

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related experience/certifications.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success leading medium- to large-scale data engineering initiatives

  • Direct experience in solutioning and building Enterprise Big Data platforms

  • Knowledge of Cloud Data Environments and Cloud technologies

  • Knowledge of S3, EMR, Athena, Snowflake, Tableau and Power BI, Python and Machine Learning tools

  • Experience with and knowledge of GT outsourcing activities in a managed services environment

  • Proven management experience in application development across agile SDLC and waterfall

  • Strong negotiating, influencing and problem resolution skills

  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

  • Experience in business systems and process planning

  • Knowledge of business environment, service requirements and hospitality culture

  • Demonstrated ability to assess customer/client needs, creatively approach solutions, decide and influence appropriate courses of action

  • Ability to understand and communicate the lifecycle of technologies and applications and to translate into business strategies for the client organizations

  • Solid understanding of GT financial structures and ability to manage corporate financial processes and standards - including drivers of process costs

  • Ability to articulate complex technical ideas in easy to understand be Executive and Business terms

  • Ability to accomplish results through others, particularly by establishing relationships, effective controls and leading in a managed service environment

  • Always maintain a constructive and positive attitude

Business/Discipline Partnership

  • Provides thought leadership to business/discipline to align iT processes with business strategies

  • In collaboration with the discipline, leads development of Privacy technology roadmaps

  • Facilities forums for data governance and portfolio management and prioritization

  • Serves as the escalation point of contact; leads efforts to resolve escalated issues

  • Prepares and delivers presentations on technology investments

  • Creates a shared vision for solutions and facilitates decision making. Negotiates trade-offs within and across different solution platforms.

  • Drives consensus amongst other functions relative to the timing of solution introduction and technology retirement

  • Identifies, evaluates, and presents new solution opportunities to address gaps

  • Fosters strong discipline relationships to fully understand business needs

Program Management

  • Leads modeling and planning phases for new initiatives under consideration

  • Leads effort to document business goals and high-level requirements

  • Drives collaboration with Enterprise Architecture and Infrastructure Delivery to confirm proposed solutions are compatible with IT standards

  • Manages and is accountable for the development of thorough and accurate business requirements, validating that solutions will meet discipline needs prior to development.

  • Manages and is accountable for business case development. Partners with business stakeholders and Technology Product leaders to complete business cases by providing relevant IT information and monitoring its ability to meet all relevant IT standards.

  • Aligns projects with technology roadmaps and technology enterprise architecture.

  • Incorporates project plans, costs, schedules, and deliverables to meet business need and in support of the business case.

  • Monitors project risk management and creates or identifies/directs mitigation plans for each risk.

Managing Day-To-Day Relationships with Teams

  • Manages application development projects in partnership with Technology Product teams, business partners and providers

  • Provides project management of business projects

  • Oversees effective reporting within application development team

  • Leads project reviews with team on application development projects

  • Manages day-to day relationships with all Technology teams to promote the delivery of services that meet or exceed the client expectations

  • Monitors projects for alignment with defined business case process

  • Drives timely resolution of escalated service delivery problems and minimizes the impact of any client service delivery issues

  • Manages, and improves service level reporting for application development

  • Provides early warning to the appropriate Business Partnership & Planning leaders and team regarding degraded or missed service levels

  • Assists with application, development and maintenance of service provider project management standards and tools

  • Participates in client portfolio and demand management processes, and engages service providers to ensure client satisfaction

  • Works with application development service providers

  • Validates the service provider(s) performs the services agreed to by the master services agreement in a manner that is consistent with both the spirit and the letter of the agreement

  • Works with team to progress the service providers services to match client needs

  • Facilitates team and service provider compliance with the agreement

  • Validates service levels meet business needs

  • Facilitates the definition and enforcement of good service provider contracts

  • Supports the Technology organization

  • Provides input to Technology’s business strategy and planning as needed

  • Collaborates with discipline partners to develop annual budgets

  • Partners with other technology groups to provide financial transparency to discipline partners

  • Manages technology roadmaps to guide solutions along a common path as well as retirement or migration of lesser-used or expensive to maintain technologies.

  • Aligns with Security and Privacy to validate that processes are followed to protect and secure customer and/or associate data

  • Engages with Vendor Relations to develop service agreements with external companies on behalf of the discipline

California Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $107,850.00 to $239,250.00 annually.

Colorado Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $107,850.00 to $217,498.00 annually.

New York Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $107,850.00 to $239,250.00] annually.

Washington Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $107,850.00 to $239,250.00 annually. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible to receive an annual bonus. Employees will accrue 0.04616 PTO balance for every hour worked and eligible to receive minimum of 7 holidays annually.
