Bain & Company Inc Director, Strategic Partnerships - Enterprise Technology and Advanced Analytics in Boston, Massachusetts

The Director of Business Development leads some of the most strategic partnerships for Bain. The individual will be responsible for the strategy, development, management, deployment and support of the partnership. We are looking for pioneers who likes to build the trail rather than follow an established trail. This entrepreneurial candidate will report directly to the VP responsible for the practice area within Bain.

Strategy and growth development

  • Drive Bain’s growth and innovation agenda through partners for a key sub-practice.

  • Develop the ecosystem strategy for a key sub-practice area minimize execution gap. Provide thought leadership and advise on partnering priorities, based on a deep understanding of alliance partners’ business initiatives & strategies and the competitive landscape for that area and ensure alignment with overall practice plans.

Partnership and alliance development

  • Orchestrate alliance identification and run selection process in collaboration with sub-practice leadership and interlock champions in industries and geographies to fill capability/offering gaps

  • Create repeatable partnering model, sales plays, and win-win economics.

  • Identify select set of strategic pilots to test the alliances in the solution

Relationship and partnership management

  • Manage day-to-day relationships for a portfolio of tier 1 and 2 alliances, directly and through team members.

  • Support onboarding of new alliances; apply appropriate baseline assessment, planning, measurement, governance with partners and set clear rules of engagement.

  • Lead target account and joint account planning process and complete pursuit plan where relevant.

Strategy deployment and implementation

  • Collaborate with the partner champions and the solution/product teams to design the partnerships into pre-configured SKUs and create joint service delivery model that delivers the best of both Bain and ecosystem partner.

  • Demonstrate value of alliances offering(s) to industry client heads, using case studies, to create pull.

  • Support case delivery. Ensure expectations of both teams are set properly to drive early traction and success.

Partnership support and development

  • Ensure best in class end-to-end partnering process is exercised.

  • Propose and oversee development of case studies for the offering(s) by industry/sector; guide the development of specific playbooks and contribute to playbooks used across Business Development

  • Actively contribute to the task forces as a champion.

Team development and growth

  • Develop, train and retain top talent in practice areas and play an active role in driving best in class (Bain average or better) NPS across the broader BD team.

  • Role model leadership and at-cause behaviors; ensure the annual BD blueprint is cascaded to each BD member and that everyone understands the journey and their role.

  • Develop your own brand as an expert in the solution ecosystem, and in deploying the offering(s) and delivering value to the client and alliances.




  • Bachelor’s degree required


  • MBA



  • 10+ years of work experience

  • 5-10 years working on global strategic partnerships

  • 5+ years relevant experience in technology/software industry and/or management consulting

  • Proven leader and will draw upon experience in partnership management

  • Must have deep experience managing strategic partners that span multiple verticals and regions. A successful candidate will exhibit a firm grasp of alliance fundamentals and the ability to learn complex new technologies quickly.

  • Presentation skills with a high degree of comfort speaking with internal and external executives.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


  • Experience at a world class partner program

  • Experience working with technology partnerships, and/or advanced analytics

  • Experience with partnerships in advanced analytics/AI

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Alliance management experience – deep experience in forming and scaling global strategic partnerships

  • Technology awareness

  • The candidate should possess a breadth of technical knowledge. Examples may include ERP, CRM, ML/Data, Analytics and Cloud Computing etc.

  • Experience with the world’s top software and cloud companies.

  • Strong network of relationships in the domain – able to quickly identify and gain access to leaders of potential partner organizations

  • Strategic, entrepreneurial thinker – Able to quickly understand diverse business issues and design credible solutions

  • Creative negotiator – comfortable working with senior executives to identify compelling win/win business opportunities; able to manage risk/reward across new and evolving business initiatives

  • Exceptional communicator - excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to build excitement and support for new ideas and ways of working

  • Successful relationship manager - Able to understand diverse motivations and influences and identify ways to build win/win partnerships

  • Comfortable bringing multiple parties to a consensus solution

  • Strong collaborator - able to build internal consensus with Bain partners, practice and product leaders in a matrix structure

  • Leader - able to inspire teams and drive joint results
