A Day in the Life

As the Engineering Manager for PL Embedded, you will be part of the global Electrical Engineering team and work in close collaboration with other groups within the team such as PCBA Designers and Electrical Architects as well as other functions such as Software and Systems engineers. You will focus on managing and growing a team of talented Electrical and Firmware engineers developing FPGA and microcontroller platforms for Surgical Robotics systems and accessories.

If projects are within your core field of expertise and needed, you will represent RD function, as the RD core team member, to work with the core team consisting of Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, Program Management and Operations to make critical decisions regarding projects execution and future product roadmap.

You will:

  • Manage the careers of your team.

  • Recruit and retain talent.

  • Coach and mentor subordinates.

  • Resource, organize and drive projects and tasks to complete the work.

  • Define and refine requirements in collaboration with the Systems team.

  • Improve design and development processes with Quality and Project Management.

  • Ensure design deliverables align with the Electrical and Software architecture.

  • Collaborate with the Hardware, DevOps and Software teams.

  • Find solutions to make development and verification more efficient and improve quality.

  • Develop creative design solution for complex problems.

Must haves: Minimum requirements :

  • Bachelors degree required and minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

Nice to haves:

  • A Bachelors Degree in a technical discipline and 10+ years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience leading small to medium size teams.

  • Experience in FPGA, SoC and embedded processing systems.

  • Understand the needs involved in developing for regulated industries.

  • Have a strong understanding of development methodologies.

  • Strong leadership abilities.

  • Solid design, verification and architecture skills.

  • Strong VHDL skills.

  • Experience in modelling FPGAs and programming embedded processing systems.

  • Experience in advanced verification methods as OVM/UVM.

  • Experience in firmware development (BSP / FSBL).

  • Experience performing risk management of FPGA and embedded processing systems.

  • Experience in PCBA design and the ability to read schematics.

  • Experience with motors, motor control, sensors and other physical interfaces.

  • Experience with low-level and real-time communication protocols.

  • Experience with video and vision processing.

  • Solid understanding of design patterns, data structures and advanced programming techniques.

  • Experience with EDA tools (build, code coverage, static analysis, source control, etc.).

  • Good understanding of regulatory needs and standards such as IEC60601-1 and IEC62304.

  • Experience in FDA regulated product delivery.

  • Hands-on mentality.

Working Conditions:

Standard Office setting in either North Haven, CT, USA or Boston, MA, USA. Occasional travel estimated at less than 25%.
