Facebook Hardware System Engineer, Data Analytics in Boston, Massachusetts

Summary:

Facebook is seeking a Hardware Systems Engineer, Data Analytics to join our Release to Production Engineering team. The role will require the application of state-of-the-art data science and machine learning techniques to help improve our cutting edge power and hardware fleet, which has one of the most efficient infrastructures in the industry. Our servers and data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently operates and upon which our innovative services are delivered. We’re looking for someone who can contribute to this effort.

Required Skills:

  1. Interface with internal hardware and software engineers and operations teams to understand system architectures and failure modes

  2. Proactively create experiments and data visualizations to detect and diagnose hardware health issues, focusing on systemic solutions

  3. Develop data pipelines and discover insights to answer relationship between hardware and data center parameters to server failures

  4. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and root cause of system failures and isolate the components/failure scenarios while working with stakeholders internally and externally

  5. Share insights with stakeholders and software teams to develop architectures to handle server failures based on hardware health data

  6. Develop and deploy machine learning-powered solutions for hardware sustaining at scale

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor in Applied Statistics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, Electronics Engineering, Machine Learning, or Mathematics and Statistics

  2. 3 or more years of experience with statistical analysis, data science, statistical hypothesis testing, statistical modeling, machine learning, or statistics

  3. Troubleshooting and data tooling skills (data analysis, big data, building analytical models, visualizations)

  4. Programming experience with SQL or another statistics driven language

  5. Experience as a liaison to teams, dealing with several partners/stakeholders at a time for time sensitive needs

  6. Experience with hardware analytics and the application of data science methodologies to uncover trends and health benchmarks

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Master in Applied Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, Electronics Engineering, Mathematics, Mathematics and Physics, or Mathematics and Statistics

  2. 5 or more years of experience with statistical analysis, statistical hypothesis testing, statistical modeling, or statistics

  3. Experience in building data infrastructure and metrics to drive cross-functional projects

  4. Machine learning/neural network expertise in hardware analytics

  5. Expertise with infrastructure hardware analytics, server system architecture triage and debug

  6. Hyperscale experience triaging data center/infrastructure HW

  7. Expertise with Python and SQL

  8. Knowledge of Linux and x86 platforms
