MassMutual Head of Data Privacy in Boston, Massachusetts

What great looks like in this role

This leader will be responsible for engaging with business partners, controls partners, data architects, cyber security leaders and others to define data privacy standards and controls, and execute an enterprise data privacy program. Success requires setting strategy and overseeing all ongoing activities related to the development, implementation and execution of privacy policies in accordance with applicable global regulations. Success also includes facilitating education and advocacy of principled data usage and protection, best practices, and emerging data architecture patterns.

Our ideal candidate has extensive knowledge and practitioner experience with risk management programs in the financial industry, is fluent in data privacy, data architecture, information management and cyber security, and possesses the business acumen necessary to champion an interdisciplinary approach that empowers our business for success.

Objectives of the role

  • Build and scale a strategic and comprehensive privacy program that defines, develops, maintains and implements policies and processes that enable consistent, effective privacy practices which minimize risk and ensure the confidentiality of personal information.

  • Set strategy and roadmaps and drive the ongoing vision and execution of the data privacy program

  • Design and activate enterprise policies, standards and controls to address risk management, deepen customer trust and loyalty, and maximize business value in compliance with global privacy laws and regulations.

  • Develop a pragmatic, accountable stewardship program across the enterprise

  • Lead buildout of scalable, privacy operations platforms and solutions, notably those that automate and address privacy rights of access and control

  • Execute data privacy operations including monitoring program compliance, privacy impact assessments, and privacy rights of access and control

  • Monitor program compliance, and investigation and tracking of potential incidents

  • Design assurance insights and key metrics to measure program effectiveness.

  • Continue to hire and lead top talent

  • Identify, follow and formulate opinions on trends in industry, academia and legislature.

This role will work in cross-functional teams collaborating with subject matter experts across the enterprise, and be based out of one of our northeastern locations (Boston, Springfield, Amherst and New York).

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Data Management, Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science or similar majors

  • Extensive experience and successful track record of establishing and executing complex, strategic, cross-functional enterprise programs with a high degree of change management.

  • 8+ years of data privacy, data governance, data management and data protection experience preferably within financial services or another highly-regulated industry

  • Expert level understanding of global data privacy, data management and data protection concepts, principles and practices

  • Expert knowledge and experience in global data privacy laws, including but not limited to CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, HIPAA, etc.

  • Deep familiarity with data privacy policy/standards development and management practices including ROPA, PIA, Notification, and Privacy Rights

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Exceptional influencing abilities across all levels of the organization

  • Authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ​JD or advanced certifications in data governance, data privacy, cyber security or similar fields

  • Masters or PhD preferably in Data Management, Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science or similar majors

  • Strong understanding of data privacy, data governance, cyber security, and algorithmic decision making in highly regulated environments

  • Financial services knowledge, including core regulations and business processes

  • Professional experience with cloud-native platforms and architectures

  • IAPP Certified Information Privacy Professional

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect

  • AWS Certified Data Analytics - Specialty

  • AWS Certified Security - Specialty

  • Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert
