Thermo Fisher Scientific Implementation Specialist in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description

The Implementation Specialist at Thermo Fisher Scientific is responsible for contributing to customer implementation projects where Core LIMS software solutions are delivered. Responsibilities include solution design and configuration against user requirements specifications in collaboration with a Business Analyst, Project Manager, and customer stakeholders. The Implementation Specialist is a member of the Digital Science business unit and reports to the North America Services Manager.


  • Participate in requirements gathering and solution design sessions with customers and assist in generating user requirement documentation.

  • Implement Core LIMS configurations based on approved user stories which represent the solution design for meeting customer requirements.

  • Perform unit and integration testing of implemented configurations.

  • Support demonstrations of configured solutions, review and respond to customer configuration feedback, and refine solution configurations accordingly.

  • Document User Acceptance Testing (UAT) scripts, perform internal testing, and support customer testing and acceptance of UAT's.

  • Develop and test deployment scripts for migrating Core LIMS configurations through development, testing, and production environments.

  • Perform system cleaning activities, including the removal of obsolete developmental configurations and records and resetting entity sequences, as part of deploying Core LIMS solutions to production environments.

  • Support Core LIMS upgrades by performing configuration assessments of customer workflows using customer supplied execution scripts to confirm functionality on new versions of the software.

  • Identify risks to customers achieving their stated business objectives and develop risk mitigation plans to manage the risk with Customer and Thermo Fisher team members.

  • Adhere to the project governance procedures and methodologies outlined within the Thermo Fisher QMS.

  • Provide solution design consultation, configuration, and troubleshooting support to colleagues and external partners.

  • Collaborate with the Services team members to improve internal documentation and product knowledge retention.

  • Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by supervisor.



  • Bachelor's degree in a Life Sciences concentration or Computer Science or equivalent experience.

  • Strong understanding of Information Technology and enterprise information management solutions.

  • Strong understanding of laboratory processes and methods.

  • Experience with SQL and Oracle databases.

  • Highly organized, creative, and motivated.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and perform effectively under pressure.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.


  • Experience with Core LIMS software.

  • Experience in laboratory informatics including LIMS, ELN, SDMS, and instrument integration.

  • Laboratory experience, preferably within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.

  • Experience with API integration code.

  • Experience with the Agile Methodology as applied to solution delivery.

  • Experience with SaaS and PaaS software delivery models.
