W.B. Mason Company, Inc. IT Systems Analyst in Boston, Massachusetts

W.B. Mason is looking for an IT Systems Analyst to join our IT Services team. Our team is constantly called upon to come up with innovative and straightforward solutions to help move W.B. Mason’s business forward while also ensuring the security and stability of our IT environment. The IT System Analyst’s duties include heading up our data backup and recovery process, overseeing our system monitoring process and operation, as well as assisting with support issues as needed. We are seeking someone with prior experience in these areas. Preference will be given to those with firsthand experience with Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM) and/or the SolarWinds Orion system monitoring tool.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Backups

  • Responsible and accountable for the overall design and successful execution of W.B. Mason’s data backup and restoration processes

  • Create, improve, and maintain processes and procedures for the backup and restore of data across all required systems

  • Train and oversee the execution of day-to-day backup and restore processes and procedures performed by 1st and 2nd tier support team

  • Serve as the escalation point for troubleshooting issues with data backups and restores

  • Monitoring

  • Serves as the central point of contact for W.B. Mason’s network and infrastructure monitoring tools

  • Carry out planning, setup, and maintenance of network monitoring tool features

  • Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting alerts/incidents and pull in internal and external resources for support as required

  • Utilize monitoring tools to proactively identify underlying problems and trends before they rise to a critical level

  • Upper Tier Support

  • Serve as an escalation point for 1st and 2nd tier support team issues as it relates to laptops, desktops, network connectivity, and user security management

  • Perform occasional remote site visits to W.B. Mason office locations for scheduled support, upgrades, and implementations

  • Work with other team members to assist in the resolution and/or communication of equipment or network level outages

  • Helps to educate and mentor members of the 1st and 2nd tier support team on more complex technical issues

  • Other

  • Interact with external vendors, other IT team members, or other departments within the company to coordinate procurements, installations, upgrades, and other services

  • Act as the point person and/or subject matter expert for IT projects and represent IT on other project teams as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the configuration, set up, testing, and troubleshooting a variety of hardware and applications

  • Knowledge of data backup and restoration methodologies, strategies, and best practices and firsthand experience with maintaining a backup process in an enterprise environment

  • Knowledge of the configuration and administration of system monitoring tools

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Office suite from both a user and admin perspective

  • Able to deliver excellent customer service on a consistent basis

  • Keen understanding of the troubleshooting process and how to apply that process to any situation

  • Can capably manage multiple tasks with differing priorities – Flexibility is key

  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment

  • Possesses a self-starting attitude and can work independently to complete assigned tasks

  • Can work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with people from different departments and locations

  • Strong desire to learn and gain experience

  • May be called upon to work outside of regular business days/hours

  • Must have current and valid driver’s license with own reliable transportation

  • Must be able to travel to remote sites – 5-10% travel time

Additional Preferred Skills and Assets (not required, but a plus)

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM) strongly desired

  • Knowledge of SolarWinds monitoring tools

  • Knowledge of PBX systems

  • Any Microsoft or network certifications

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX

  • Knowledge of retail processes including warehouse, delivery, customer support, and sales functions

p>Education and/or Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in IT, a related field, or equivalent technical experience
